Chinese tell badminton players to say sorry
BEIJING (Reuters) - Chinese officials have told their Olympic badminton team leader and disgraced players to make a public apology following the deliberate throwing of matches at the London Games, the Xinhua news agency said on Thursday.
The women's doubles players disqualified from the Games on Wednesday were top seeds Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli of China, South Korean pairs Jung Kyung-eun and Kim Ha-na, and Ha Jung-eun and Kim Min-jung, plus Greysia Polii and Meiliana Jauhari of Indonesia.

"The delegation has already severely criticised and educated the responsible badminton leaders, team and relevant players and demanded they profoundly recognise the seriousness and the harmfulness of this matter, reflect deeply on it, publicly apologise and resolutely prevent such incidents from happening again," Xinhua quoted an unnamed spokesman as saying.
Li Yongbo, chief coach of the Chinese badminton team, said the poor behaviour of his players reflected the shortcomings of new rules in the sport.
"I feel that no matter whether it is the rules or something else, that's no excuse," said Li. "The key point is we did not behave professionally as athletes and did not treat each match seriously.
"We didn't strive with all our might in the Olympic way. From that point of view we really didn't grasp this point thoroughly ... as chief coach I really feel I must say sorry to fans and viewers nationwide," Li told Xinhua.
The eight players were thrown out of the Games for throwing matches in a bid to secure more favourable draws later in the tournament.

Some news & photos from Aug. 1st..
- Well, as you all know and heard it, the biggest news that's still buzzing around London and the badminton venue is y'day's unfathomable show of embarrassment during 2 of the WD matches..Simply it's been a day of infamy that will go down in Olympics history book forever..
- On the BWF side, one of the BWF reporters apparently was inquired about by several news outlets to discuss what happened. But has turned down all of them. It's simply been nothing short of a surreal 24+ hrs for BWF as they try to reflect ..
- And yes, as already mentioned, CHN's WD player Yu Yang has officially "retired" from playing professionally (may/may not come back later) after this incident (well, she's been sort of thinking abt it for some time)..
- Saw someone brought in one of those white lenses into the stadium..
And here are a few photos to share from today's afternoon & evening sessions:
Looks like satoko suetsuna is praying hard from the pic.. and her prayers are being answered as another jpn wd pair beat the danish pair to proceed to the semi final...
I am staying at the Wembly Plaza tonight, what are the chances of seeing Saina comming / going? would love to say good luck, and see that smile of course...
A few photos from Aug. 2nd..

Those 2 athletes can't escape the camera (just outside the stadium) : Ah Koooooo & XXF...
Chen Jin had to be tended to & had his knee wrapped up after blood came out of his right knee..
Looks like Lee Chong Wei is wearing a Hublot Watch or it might be Audemars Piguet Royal Oak edition. Thumbs UP!
That banner certainly puts loads of pressures to LCW's shoulder in the arena where LCW is fighting..
