    JAKARTA: Youngster Sony Dwi Kuncoro retained the JVC Asian Badminton Championships (ABC) men's singles crown at the Senayan Indoor Stadium here yesterday.

    In a repeat match of last year's final in Bangkok, the 19-year-old Sony defeated Indonesian Open champion and compatriot Taufik Hidayat 15-5, 7-15, 15-8 win. It was Sony's fourth consecutive win over Taufik.

    Indonesia also captured the mixed doubles title through Nova Widianto-Vita Marissa. They defeated South Koreans Kim Yong-hyun-Lee Hyo-jung 15-2, 15-11.

    Surprise finalist Silvi Antarini failed to add a long-awaited women's singles title for Indonesia. The 19-year-old Silvi was beaten 6-11, 5-11 by Hong Kong's Wang Chen.


    Men's singles: Sony Dwi Kuncoro (Ina) bt Taufik Hidayat (Ina) 15-5, 7-15, 15-8.

    Men's doubles: Lee Dong-soo-Yoo Yong-sung (Kor) bt Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan (Ina) 15-10, 15-11.

    Women's singles: Wang Chen (Hkg) bt Silvi Antarini (Ina) 11-6, 11-5.

    Women's doubles: Ra Kyung-min-Lee Kyung-won (Kor) bt Lee Hyo-jung-Hwang Yu-mi (Kor) 15-9, 15-7.

    Mixed doubles: Nova Widianto-Vita Marissa (Ina) bt Kim Yong-hyun-Lee Hyo-jung (Kor) 15-2, 15-11.
