Wow... I was trying so hard to go to San Francisco bay Area to check out the badminton clubs and there is one opening in my own back yard! So I will just take my holiday here and don't need to go anywhere! My congratulations for this club in Los Angeles. The pictures look very attractive and wanting many people to go to play so I will wait for the August 25th and make my way down there for the opening! Can anyone tell me how many courts? Too lazy to check through all the postings here. The lighting looks good, but what are all those checkers on the floor? Is it like the tile flooring? I've never seen that before. I'm glad they are not opening with no permit. I would not want to be thrown out the door while I am having my awesome games!

See you all there Los Angelers!! Yaba be there to support at the opening!

Pass of Arcadia City Council Hearing

    :)
On 9/18 Tuesday night. At City Hall of Arcadia. It took about 1.5 hours to finish our hearing. Luckily it was passed. Councilman emphasized the safety of our members and parking spots of other business not to be used by our club patrons. We shall have a uniform security guard after 5pm till close. This is to ensure the safety of our members and guests.

Special thanks to the following players for their speeches:
    Bob Lewis (La Cresenta)
    Tom Wilmhurst (San Gabriel)
    Rena Wang (Arcadia)
    John Lin (El Monte)
    Dr. Ray Ou (Arcadia)

Especially their hope to this new club. Rena earned a lot of applause after speech because she's still a student in Arcadia High School. Also thank for the coming of Jacque Gibson, Dora Wang, Iris Wang, Scott Chen and Linda Louie.

A councilman suggest us to open till 10pm in the weeknites and 12pm in the weekened. I explained that with such a small amount to be charged which would be very hard to breakeven if close such early in the weeknites.

We thank for the patience of our pre-members. Without their support, this club won't be built.
We also thank for the visitors who gave us suggestions on the Lighting; Sky-Lights etc. Still have something to be improved everyday.

It should be another 2 weeks. As there has about 23 conditions need to be done and inspected by City of Arcadia.

You can now pre-registered as a member. The 1st month to join will be free of initiation fee. Please go to: http://www.abadminton.com/membership/application.php

Hope everyone will have a good time when playing here. And don't hesitate to let us know if anything wrong. We'll try our best to make you come and have fun and health.

    Thank You
    William Chan

Glad to hear the wonderful news..

..*hip hip hooray*, *hip hip hooray*..Congrats, William!:D:)
Ah, finally, the good news we've been waiting to hear...IMO, i think ABC has done well by complying to all city's rules & regulations.[IMG]

-Btw, William, i'm just curious about their regulation that members can't park in other patrons' parking spaces. Does that mean the members can't park **at all* at other patrons' parking spaces, even if it's passed their reg. business hours??..
-I also think the business hours should be extended, both on weeknights as well as weekends. I don't see any problem & IMO, I think 12am sounds reasonable on those times, granted the club manager/or whoever is in charge is/are able to stay that long & provide enough security.

*looking fw to attending the grand opening, i assume it'll be sometimes on the 1st week of Oct.?*:)

    Hi ctjcad & Kwun

Thanks for your comments and wishes. City of Arcadia is fair and very classy. You can view the Staff Report at http://www.ci.arcadia.ca.us/home/index.asp?page=16&Calendar_type=1&recordid=4114&archive=agenda

We are only 3/4 way. Still have 23 conditions to follow and now is in the process to draft out a plan for city's plan check. Once the plan check is approved, we'll do all the necessary additions/modifications. After everything been done and inspected by various departments, the permit will be issued.

ABC has 72 parking spaces. After 6:30pm, our neighbor, AM Player will lend us their 59 parking spots. This also effective during weekends. So, we should have 72+59=131 parking spaces. Besides, they have 4 loading docks which will not be used during the night time and weekends. Some other neighbors are quite concern on their parking spaces being used by our club patrons. So, that's why they wish their parking spaces not to be used by ours. In return, we told them they could park on our spaces especially in the morning when needed because they really have much less spaces.

During tournaments, we shall have another 75 parking spaces from LA County Weighs and Measures Dept. So we'll have altogether 206 parking spaces during tournaments. But only limit to 4 tourneys per year.

For opening hours. City will review in 6 months. Our security guard will be the last one to leave the club permise. He has to make sure the club is clear before going home. For those graveyard shift, they can go to our sister club near by.

Eric of SGVBC visited last week. We all agreed to compete in a healthy way. Such as forming teams to play against each other. He also liked our courts layout and flooring too. Thanks.

May I also take this chance to thank Mr. Don Chew and staffs/coaches of OCBC. They also showed their sincere concern on this club during my visit to them at the US Open.

Thanks a million to all friends who showed their support when we were in a down time. While we had invested so much time and $$ but still not sure about the outcome.

May I propose here to form a Greater California League so all the clubs can join hands together and play some friendship games? Also, wish all the existing clubs and clubs to be born a success.

Will post our Official Opening Date on our website www.abadminton.com and here once we have a clearer picture.

Kwun, thanks for your goodwork on this website. Everyone in the Badminton community will enjoy.

    Happy Moon Festival

    ^^Thanks for your informative reply..^^

..wow, so much work but i'm very happy that everything is slowly falling into place..:)

Actually what i meant earlier abt "ABC has done well by complying to the city's rules and regulations" is that, ABC has shown enough integrity, professionalism & willingness to follow what the city's ordinances are, eventhough the due process could take longer. In the long run, i think it will definitely benefit ABC.
    * Thanks for the clarification on the parking issue. I think it's a win-win solution for all the businesses involved.
    * Glad to hear that Eric (SGVBC) and Don (OCBC) are helping you guys out with their support. I think working together is the best way to promote the sport:cool:
    * Wow, a Greater California League, heh??..hmm, i assume you mean by all the full-time clubs in California??;)..wow, what do you think kwun?? Any clubs in NorCal that might be interested??..;):)

Thanks again William for your hard effort!! And we'll be waiting for the Grand Opening announcement!!:)

NorCal is the Badminton Club Capitol of the World now. 8 professional clubs by end of 2007. Plus 4 clubs in SoCal, California will have 12 clubs altogether. It will be fun to have these clubs to form a league just like the European Soccer League, or simply NFL in the US. With own emblem and colors. And a lot of cheerleaders and followers. Also, we'll have qualified teams of Referees and Linesman. Results will be posted on Sports section of newspapers. And of course badmintoncentral.com. We may attract major TV networks and investors by boasting such atmosphere.

Kwun, can u start a new thread for me for this GCBL or simply CBL?

    Thanks/William

In regard to the Greater California League, are you thinking of having adults league and/or juniors too?

FYI, I have been working on an Inter-Club Junior Team Tournament concept, and have been in discussions with several existing clubs representatives; we plan to have this first junior team tournament in 2008, as early as January. If you are interested in the proposal, please contact me at widmeister@yahoo.com

I sure hope so. I hope to shoot a badminton film promoting the club once it is officially open.

    Great news, William

As for ICJTT, currently, SGVBC, OCBC, Bintang, SmashCity, UBC, MBBC, Belevue, Texas and Maugus are interested. We could also combine clubs in case there isn't enough players in any age group. The ideal number of junior team tournament would be 8, that way we could conduct the tournament in one weekend. The current thinking is that we would have Under-19, Under-16, and perhaps Under-12 groups depending on the interests. The format would be similar to the Sudirman Cup's except the number of matches would be 7 instead of 5. I am about to send the latest document to all clubs and would be glad to include your club.

Also, incidently, among 3 Socal clubs (OCBC, Garden Grove, and SGVBC) we unofficially have a monthly adult friendly tournament. In this tournament we have A, B, and C groups. Last Saturday it was OCBC vs GG at OCBC.

    Arcadia visit

Harry I were fortunate enough to visit ABC last week and see the club. It is very nice and William did a great job with the club. I wish him the best of luck and hope that all badminton enthusiasts in the area will enjoy playing at ABC.
Sorry Kwun, I did not take any pictures for respect of William. I didn't ask him but I figure he will post pictures himself when he is ready.
Don't worry, the club is very nice. ENJOY.

Ben & Harry - Thanks for visiting. Wish your club will be smooth and successful.

All of sudden, everything been smooth. We should have the club open hopefully next weekend. Will post the exact date after the inspections mid next week from various departments - Public Works; Fire Marshall; Police and Planning. At the opening, everyone will be welcome. Basically eat; drink; play and sign-up (we'll give out a club t-shirt to the registered members at the day of official opening).

Will have a free play during that day. Also, eat and drink (non-alcoholic). Whoever register that day as a member will have a free Arcadia Club T-shirt. Will try to invite those friends from SoCal clubs too. After the official opening, all players here has to be members or guests. They also have to sign a waiver before go in to play. I'm hoping the final inspections will be on Wednesday or Thursday. Will post the date once decide. Please do come and show your techniques and footwork.
