And J Lais returns the favour in G2, losing 21-11. Both players are a bundle of nerves.

HBJ's low serve is just too high and duly punished.

The streaming started late. I'm now watching the start of G1 between HBJ and JL.

And yes, HBJ has been making many unforced errors, hitting out most of the time. She seems to be slow moving and unmotivated.

HBJ heaves a sigh of relief, winning the 3rd 21-3. J Lais lacks inner belief and allows HBJ to recover and regain her confidence for a run-away victory in the decider.

I guess homeground is seldom an advantage to CHN's top players, more of added pressure, sometimes crippling. Akane Y , however, often appears to me a cool cucumber, I'd fancy her chances here highest; perhaps, the surprise package is TPE Lee Chia Hsin. Busanan in terms of strength is just as good if not better than Akane but she tends to underperform at the junior level. Qin Jinjing is another disappointment at the junior level.

Busanan is stamping her authority on FRA Lole Courtois.

INA's Anthony Ginting Sinisuka [3/4] and Ruselli Hartawan cruised through their opening matches in straight-sets. Anthony should secure a rematch against Kanta Tsuneyama [5/8] for a place in the last 4 on Wednesday. The H2H between these 2 players is 1-1. Anthony beat the Japanese quite easily in the WJC 2014 (21-13, 21-5) to avenge his equally straight-forward loss (13-21, 15-21) in the AJC 2014. It's also quite interesting to see them facing each other in the QF stage of every important junior tourney this year. I believe PBSI is targeting a medal from Anthony.

Meanwhile, Ruselli (Mei Mei) will square off against Ruthvika Shivani G. [5/8] for a place in the last 8. That will not be easy and I guess Mei Mei's target will be to hopefully secure a QF spot against (most likely) the World Junior Champion Akane Yamaguchi.

Just watched Shi Yuqi with Joy Lai.
Is Joy Lai ethnically Chinese? Does she speak Chinese?

The surname Lai is Chinese and she looks Chinese. Maybe her parents were from Malaysia or Singapore. Quite a number from these two countries migrated to Australia, especially from MAS.

Many Chinese parents would like their children to learn Mandarin or Chinese as commonly known, though they may also speak to their children in their mother tongue or dialect, such as Cantonese or Hokkien.

If Joy is seen to be speaking to her Chinese partner, it is very likely to be in Mandarin as it seems unlikely that her partner speaks English.

So far, to be frank, He BJ has been unimpressive. Born in Suzhou, Jiangsu province where Nanjing is located, she seems to be feeling the intense pressure in front of her home crowd and unable to play to her standard, making lots of simple errors.I've a feeling we might not see her in the final, let alone win it.

In her half of the draw, I'd rate Busanan's chances considerably higher. In the other half, Akane Y remains the hot favourite, with Lee CH, Ruselli H and Kim GE all having fighting chances, not necessarily in that order though I'd think Lee CH has a slight edge over the last two.

Nerves have been a huge problem for Chinese Players.
Fan Zhendong is world rank 3 (yes, in senior rankings) player who has no competition, with the nearest opponent at some distant 30-40 (as far as I know), but he's not playing upto his standards.
I guess young players are more easily overwhelmed by pressure. Nevertheless, these situation will help them for their senior careers.

    Quarter Finals Representation.

    MS

Only CHN had 2 MS participants, the rest are from MAS, IND, GER, HKG, JPN and INA. The two CHN players are seeded #1 & #2. Will Cheam (MAS) and Anthony (INA), both seeded #3/4, be able to pose a challenge to the Chinese?

Except for unseeded Aditya Joshi (IND), the remaining MS players are all seeded. GER and HKG are surprise inclusions from the non-traditional powerhouse countries.

    WS

Representatives for WS are evenly drawn from different countries.

Yamaguchi (JPN) remains the hot favourite but Busanan (THA) seems to be in top form and can cause an upset. Though seeded #2, HBJ (CHN) has been unimpressive so far.

Unseeded players from INA, HKG, TPE and KOR shocked the field to advance to the QF. Of note is Kim Ga Eun (KOR) who easily disposed of Liang Xiaoyu (SIN) #5/8 in R2. Europe is represented by Clara Azurmendi of Spain.

    Will there be more upsets?

I noticed that too. Having these players compete in XDs followed by their Singles a little more than an hour or so later is not a good idea.

Wonder how many of those who have to play XD first would put in real effort so as to conserve energy for their more important singles matches afterwards. As for those who play singles first, such as Ng TY and Cheam JW, they might be somewhat too tired for their XD that follow less than two hours later.

Scheduling all the XDs in the afternoon session, preferably all more or less at the same time, then followed by singles in the evening would be better. Either that or have all the singles matches in the afternoon and all the XDs in the evening but I supposed the organizer prefer to have the singles in the evening to cater to and attract a bigger crowd, mostly working people on office hours.

Aditya Joshi is making good progress, just watch him beating Cheam June Wei in a 3-setter to advance to the semifinal.

Not bad, Ruselli gives herself a lifeline coming from behind to take G2, 21-18, after being emphatically outplayed in G1, 21-6. A three-setter is on the cards.

No upset, Akane reasserts herself to deny Ruselli in G3, wrapping it up 21-11 for a place in the semifinal.

The livestream really screws up, every now and then switching to the just-concluded match.
