I was wondering if there's going to be more moderaors instead of the "Big 3"(Kwun/Mag/Cheung) doing all the work? Maybe have a moderator per forum on top of the current moderators that we already hav so the Big 3 can take it easier?
Kill double posts, move threads to correct forums, lock threads that are unappropriate, and I was thinking "merge/delete threads?" a lot threads either have no response of junk response in them(ie: second post will be: do a search, click here... etc etc) Because according to my knowledge(which may be wrong) the more threads there are, the longer it will take the search function to run, and will take up more space on the harddrive of wherever this forum is placed. Also, the speed will decrease(we wont see it now but when e # of posts become enormous there'll be delays... BIG TIME delays. For the Buy/Sell Forum, the old "how much is "this racet" in "this city" cost?" threads should also be deleted because prices change a lot even in the matter of months. In general, just making the forums clean and "junkless" (ok... so i'm a neat-freak... but wut's wrong wif that? ) and maybe the forum will even speed up a lil bit!
Yodums has a point. there really ain't much to moderate. everybody are behaving as ladies and gentlemen here as all badminton players do. the occasional double posts and wrong forum are really light jobs. and the overhead is really small anyway. i spend more time talking about badminton here instead of moderating. i'd say, 95% read/writing and 5% moderating. very little work. as for forum slowing down, one day it will, but we aren't growing that fast. and later if we have good funding, perhaps we can move to a faster server instead of sharing the machine with 100 other websites............
hmm... so u DO come and read these I thought u guys'd never come read the posts here now that this issue is solved... i was wondering when more FAQs will be posted? or when the new n HOT review section will be opened? cant wait to get my hands on it btw... I'm not being inconsiderate of the time it takes the Big 3 to make up the FAQs or the Product Review section(U guys prolly got better things to do lik play badminton ^^), I'm jus REALLY eager to get my hands on some reviews
hehehheheh.... be careful... One day, u find some ur comments like this disappeared, u know why... j/k
Lol. This forum is great, some other forums have moderator for every category. But then.....other forums don't follow the rules...lol. I'm an admin in a couple of forums....let me tell you it's plenty of work. lol. but then it's cuz people don't look before they post! lol. Here everyone checks...well, most of the times. lol.
"lol"? Is anyone else worried about the erosion of English and the replacement of individual emotions with stupid abbreviations and emoticons? Am I in the wrong forum?
The erosion of language is a concern, and it's replacement by txt speak. The abbreviations were born in the days of low bandwidth, but I think some of them still have a place. I would prefer not to see ne1 for anyone thx for thankyou etc but don't mind the more emotional ones like lol rotflol lmho because in plain text it is very difficult to express a certain tone. Smilies really do help. In a lot of threads posts get quite antagonistic because without an idea of a persons tone in what they're saying things can be misunderstood.
But it's much more insidious than that; in her last post Joanne has used "lol" five times for no reason whatever other than that idiom seems appropriate when using the internet. There may become a time when this becomes unconscious, and individual emotions are replaced by stock epithets and little icons. Besides, how are some of the speakers here who don't speak English as there first language (perh. inc. Joanne) going to learn English when native speakers can barely speak their own language? And another thing...there should be a bombast-filter; it's difficult to understand what some people mean because they use inflated diction when simple language would convey their opinion much better. Anyway,...
I did notice Joanne's 5 lols, but I didn't comment in case she actually does laugh a lot. She's still young. I don't know about you but I'm closing in on grumpy old man and don't do all that much laughing out loud when surfing. I occasionally chuckle in my head... maybe we need some new abbreviations to get a proper sense of the scale of laughter lctm little chuckle to myself col chuckle out loud col have a nice day
Yes, I DO laugh a lot... But not so much these days since school started... Anyway, that post was quite a while ago... when I was still that happy lil' girl with nothing to do but laugh all day. Anyway, get back to the topic!
quote: 'as there first language' Ok, let's not get too pedantic; I should think that typos are acceptable, since most of us are typing fairly quickly and as we think. It is occasionally permissible to use adverbs in place of possessive pronouns (there for their), providing that it is a typo and that it does not become a habit. And it is also permissible to pardoy people with poor grammar. However, the other objections are valid.
Ans 1: Not in this forum ans 2: This is a badminton forum. Go to an English language forum with your points
If you are that concerned, I suggest you open up your own webforum where you can impose your own standards and teach English. It would be closer matched to your own ideals.
