INTRODUCTION TO MALAYSIA PURPLE LEAGUE (MPL)
The Malaysian Purple League (also known as Kopiko Purple League during Season 1 (2014/15) for sponsorship reasons) is Malaysia's First Professional Badminton League. It offers a total prize of RM2,000,000 for the team that wins the league.
The league has 12 teams representing the 12 cities and badminton clubs from Ampang, Bangsar, Cheras, Kajang, Kepong, Klang, Muar, Nusajaya, Petaling, Petaling Jaya, Puchong and Serdang.
The second season of the league will kick off at Sports Arena Sentosa from 4[SUP]th[/SUP] Nov 2015 to 10[SUP]th[/SUP] Jan 2016.
MPL SEASON 1 - LEAGUE RANKING
Champion = Muar City BC
Runner Up = Petaling Jaya BC
Third Placing = Puchong United BC
LEAGUE FORMAT
• Each of the 12 clubs selected to participate in the league shall play against all the other clubs in a single round robin format over the scheduled period which shall be decided at the sole discretion of the Purple League after taking into consideration the international and local tournament commitments of the players, in addition to the television broadcast considerations.
• Each match in the completion shall comprise of 6 games as follows;
- 2 Men’s singles
- 2 Men’s doubles
- 1 Women’s singles
- 1 Mixed doubles
• Each match shall be played to the best of 5 games of 11 points.
• Order of Play
- Men's singles 1
- Women's singles
- Men's doubles 1
- Mixed doubles
- Men's singles 2
- Men's doubles 2
• Each match shall be played to the best of 5 games of 11 points. Intervals between games shall not exceed 90 seconds.
• Ranking of clubs will be established by the difference between total games won and total games lost with greater difference ranked higher. Omit number of ties won and number of matches won. The rest will follow BWF general competition rules on the round robin format for team competition.
PRIZE MONEY
• The Purple League shall offer an initial prize money pool of RM 2, 000,000 to be shared by the teams in order of their overall ranking on completion of all the league ties.
• The division of prize money shall be as follows;
Champion = RM 1,000,000
Runner Up = RM 300,000
Third Placing = RM 150,000
Fourth Placing to Tenth Placing = RM 80,000 each
