Malaysia Open SS 2011:Day 1, 18/1/11(qualification round)

surprisingly, chan kwong beng beats chou tien chen: 21-17, 21-16, i never thought he will win initially

I agree... I was impressed by CTC's wins over Chen Jin in the China Masters and against Sony in the Asian Games but he doesn't seem in form here, losing tamely to CKB..

Susah lah!
Two of the three men's singles back-up players could not even pass the 1st qualifying hurdle.
Liew Darren lost to Hsueh Hsuan Yi 21-17 ,18-21, 20-22 and Chong Wei Feng lost to Tommy Sugiarto 16-21, 22-24.
Chan Kwong Beng pulled through against Chou Tien Chen 21-17, 21-16. He next faces Lee Hyun Il and that's not easy.
This begs the question as to why the back-up players cannot perform despite having high-profile foreign coaches coaching them.
In the past we had a core of good singles players who could be shifted to play either 1st singles, 2nd or 3rd singles but sadly this option is no longer available.

:confused::confused::confused:

But we only have 1 Foreign coach. Hendrawan. not enough maybe?

Our little kiddies on court need even more support. Can't let them accuse the management of being unfair.

To me, CKB is also better than LDR and CWF...........only he lost focus in past few months.....

But today, LDR did showed some fighting spirit in that match and Hsieh also a decent player, so I quite satisfied with his performance here.

As for CWF.....I am speech less.....

Totally agree with your analysis here, jasonmarc! ;) Except maybe CKB I'm still not so convinced as his performance was bad last year... (at least he did beat BP I think..)

Is this a sign of HHB's quality?
Mohd Lutfi Zaim Abdul Khalid/Vountus Indra Mawan's win over HHB/TJM is really a surprise and is indeed an upset. This unknown Malaysian pair will next play against another unknown Malaysian pair Chow Pak Chuu/Hong Chieng Hun. Whatever the outcome, Mas will have an additional pair for the main draw. Good for a change.

Agree... hopefully they will shine and not another "flop" boleh?

you should ask me, the person that actually there...about CWF, CKB and Liew Darren

i watched this match on and off...the CHN although doing well in XD is not clicking well in MD
their only way to win is to force MAS to lift for them to kill the bird...
MAS is lucky as their defence is good and fast....few times the save the bird by pushing hard to drive or to baseline
and caught the CHN pair...

I can only summarise, about CWF and Liew Darren
stamina is a big problem for two of them...
CWF is not as fast as Tommy and he is lucky to catch up at 20 all, although Tommy can
end the game fast...to be honest, CWF either improve his speed and stamina or basically can
have a normal QF to 1st RD eliminations in SS....
Liew Darren is a huge disappointment, he started well...but become slow and lack stamina
and nervous as well...the Taiwanese is not playing too well but Darren as well..
at the end of 3rd sets, Darren ask for toiler break each time change of service and
ask for change of the bird...can see he is lacking in stamina....

CKB, actually saw him play in QF in MO 2010,
i think he can be good, need to add more "punch" in his game
either he is good or the Taiwanese not so impressive
but i see more confident and more variations in CKB game...
but the 3 of them still unstable on court...all also can give
away easy shots, and smash to the net quite often....
one conclusion....3 of them not young and not that old..
if no improvement in this 1-2 years, we should focus on
younger batch...

I left the stadium same time with Liew Darren,
he looked so skinny and pale...i am much taller than him...
of coz he looked sad...I thought of asking his signature, photo and his shirt...
but......i prefer MAS cuties....

Thanks for the reports, Daniel! Are you going to watch later too?
So I can summarize that :
No more hope for CWF as he's going to be 25 at the end of this year.
LDR is going the same route as long as he doesn't improve his stamina and mental strength
TJM/HHB can't click, and MAS pairs normally have good defense? ;)

Double post. Sorry... BC lag. I think Daniel also affected.
