Men's singles first round saw some several surprises, top-seed Srikanth, defending champion Xue Song and fifth seed Hu Yun were sent packing early in this GP Gold. Second seed, Tian HW who's beaten finalist of HKG Open few days ago will be the hot favourite alongside with three HKG players Wei Nan, Angus Ng KL and Vincent Wong WK. Some projected close contest tomorrow, Qiao B v Chong WF, Vincent Wong v Ginting, Lin GP v Jayaram.

Last year's WS final rematch will happen tomorrow, Sindhu v Kim HM. Strong presence by Japanese players, Yamaguchi, Mitani, Hashimoto and Sayaka Sato, the latter will take on Singaporean Liang Xiaoyu who has created breakthrough in her badminton career last September, knocked out former world champion Intanon at Thailand GP Gold semifinal. Another title contender in this category, Sun Yu will take on Japanese back-up shuttler, Aya Ohori while her junior compatriot He Bingjiao has Indonesian Ruselli Hartawan as first round opponent.

The Swiss GPG and Indian SS crowns came after Dan. And guess what? He is going to Dubai.

I know how disappointed you must have felt over Srikanth current poor performance. Yes he is lucky to be able to go to Dubai after all. I am also a great fan of Srikanth and I am upset about his poor performance too.

But then I was thinking about it in many perspective. MS event is definitely very challenging now. I am not trying to be rude here but just my sincere opinion. Perhaps just perhaps Srikanth does not have the opportunity to get good coaching from good coaches? I know a good coach can perform wonders. For example we all know how Park Joo Bong work wonders with Japan turning Japan from nobody in badminton to somebody in badminton.

Perhaps will it help if India could get good imported coaches to train their players? I am saying this not to overstep the role of BAI but just my opinion. I felt that something must be done to solve this problem as soon as possible. If not Srikanth may have to forget about his dreams to play in Olympics 2016.

Wow, no.1 seed is out. Good performance by Christie who is out to hunt anybody in his way.

Back to the drawing board - will it affect his Olympic qualification hopes?

Maybe. The way things are, if KS and HSP don't win a SS or two GPs soon, who knows? We might be sending the old failures like Chokeshyap and AJ to Rio.

First Xue Song, now Hu Yun, what's happening to them ?

The big names had to play nearly all the big events all year long and are thus tired at the end of season, while the springy youngies are fresh and motivated to beat the high ranked fuddy duddies.

What happens to Srikanth?

Something is wrong. Perhaps those who have watched him play can shed some light on Srikanth's recent bad performance.

Papa Doc Duvalier's spirit put a voodoo spell on him coz LD was Papa Doc's favourite.

No one knows mate, he has been playing like someone ranked 30 odd all season long.
And if he plays like this, he will go 0-6 at Dubai in games. :-(

He did not play well. Something hindering his mind. He does not have that explosive style . Hope he realizes soon or else he can't do anything. There are so many youngsters in india who can overtake him in 1 or 2 years.

Even if he returns to his very best form (or better), LS is pre-ordained to leave him in the shade.

All of team Macau badminton players are either semi-pro or students. Their objective is to gain more experience and exposure through competitive badminton matches. No surprise if their opponents whitewash them.

Played a pro badminton match against the world number 10 in my national open will definitely look good on CV. The interviewer won't bother asking the score . lol.

I know you want the best for all badminton nations, but the massive fan boy/ hero worshipper in me would rather have bad results under Gopi than great ones under someone else.

Blabl, that's a strong word calling Japan was nobody in badminton before Park Joo Bong join Japan national team. You should read history of badminton well, check your fact right. Japan is way more successful than Korea. Japan's golden era was before 80's, and it's because of their own (Japanese) coaches.

Japan has won the Uber Cup 5 times, second most after China, while Korea have 1 Uber Cup only

Japan has 1 Thomas Cup while Korea have never won this cup (Even when Park was playing)

Anyway, I have nothing against Park as he is on of the best players in history. But you don't need to underestimate the whole particular country to praise your idol.
