The game against the Japanese pair yesterday highlighted their weaknesses. Mostly the inability to sustain a good run all the way. the Japanese women played an almost mistake-free performance whilst our girls starts to make really huge errors towards the 15+ point mark. Even though they are the more creative and aggressive pair, a lack of mental and physical discipline comes to mind.
since then unable to win against any JPN & INA pairs for a past few weeks, now starting to get harder to play against CHN pairs...
They played some good points but gave away attack too easily at end of match. They kept fighting to the end and the audience gave them a lot of applause for the effort.
their match with the young Indian wd team in the CW games is an eye opener. There are a few weaknesses they need to mitigate before they can be considered to be real top 10 contenders. Namely strategy and physical discipline. The winning formula is already there and it's exciting to watch.. but their weaknesses are obvious and make you cringe even when they are winning....
well, they beat the world no 3 Korean pair in the first round of the Japan Open 2022. Judging from the way they play, could have easily wrapped it up in straight sets.. but for so many silly service errors and bad line calls....
Need more experience. They got the foundation right. Just experience and more matches ... plus lesser injuries. I am not surprised to see them in the Podium of the Olympics. The timeline for them is right. They have not peak yet.
this is where Rexy can come in and give some boost to them. Is Rexy also responsible for the women's doubles also? (i know they have their own team coaches)
Terrible injury for Pearly Tan at the Japan Open 2022 but the blame is spread out to all parties involved. BWF - provide an actual doctor to assess injuries. All Pearly got was a volunteer to come out and apply cold spray, even Gill and Steen were commenting that a random stranger off the street can do this. Embarrassing. BWF/Umpire/Coaches - provide authority for umpires and coaches to stop a match if they see fit. Coaches - Pearly's coaches should've been more forceful and convince her to stop playing. The coaches seemed to be giving tactical advice during the 3rd game interval when she could barely walk... Pearly - people may disagree but Pearly is also to blame for this outcome. She knew right away this was a serious injury and still decided to keep playing. Some may say she's young, doesn't know better, wants to play for her country, etc. but it is part of your job as an athlete to monitor your physical condition. If you're training and something doesn't feel right you tell your coach and they'll (hopefully) modify the practice to suit your needs. Similar situation in this same tournament was Ng Ka Long. He retired in world champs with a thigh injury and still decided to play in Japan the next week, ends up retiring 1st game against HS Prannoy. Players needs to have the awareness to listen to their body and stop playing when it's giving them signs. Regardless, wishing Pearly a speedy recovery and hope they'll be ready in time for the Paris 2024 qualification period next year.
From M. Thinah's social media account, she said the blame was all her and Pearly Tan. Coaches told them to stop but they were stubborn.
Pearly gets small ouchie on ACL. Continues to play and small ouchie turns into big ouchie. 1 year to rehab torn ACL.
I watched the replay and it was hard to watch. I’m still puzzled that MY coaches did not intervene sooner. It was clearly a knee injury from the moment and no one thought it was a bad idea to play through that? once again, hope she gets well soon.
Player being stupid and inexperienced. Coaches being stupid and not firm enough. Even though Pearly tried to stop blaming the coaches, I don’t think they can avoid the blame. The coaches should insist her to stop. The coaches job is also to think of the next tournaments.
