Tian Houwei had played only four international tournaments before coming here, two in CHN, one in AUS and one in NZ(R1 only).
Fully aware of each other's amazing retrieving ability, they have to bide their time to launch an attack. Surprisingly, the younger man is showing more signs of fatigue.
Tian Houwei is a composed player now, a sign of growing maturity. Keep it up,young man. Hope to see him win his first Superseries title soon (provided CBA sends him to more SS events). Congratulations, Tian Houwei !
Snotty umpire - HKV obviously didn't think Tian had crossed the net and neither did the commentators. Love that Tian gave her a look straight after winning! Poor HKV...I really do think he could have won it but he just made too many unforced errors, especially in the first game. Tian is a very exciting prospect, but there are still quite a few areas in his game that he needs to improve. I still feel that it would be more worthwhile putting him into major circulation over Du and Wang Zhengming.
Noteworthy for a young unseeded, ranked outside 100 player to best the top two seeds for the title, his second in only five international tournaments (excluding the junior events). IF I may say this, not all unforced errors are simple errors, sometimes they are caused by the opponent's superb defensive ability forcing one to go for the lines and do that little bit extra, hence the higher propensity for error. All in all, an excellent match, badminton of the highest quality as the renowned commentator,Gillian Clark, is wont to say.
