So Korea as China arch-rival in WJC will be back in action for team event after last year edition only participated in individual event.
I have been told that each player will cost about US$ 4600...US$ 2600,( For INA players) alone for the airfare..some coaches think it is better to spend those money on Challenges instead of sending juniro to WJC...some coaches may refuse to go as it is way too far
that is exactly the argument that my friend gave me when he said he thinks he can do well in the tournament: "I bet a lot of asian countries won't send any players since it is so far away." Thats too bad then, that the government can't sponsor something like that.
Well, unfortunately this is a common concern for the WJC. 3 years ago, Canada skipped the whole thing and Denmark skipped the team competition in New Zealand. The year before, the U.S. skipped the Korean edition. The list goes on. One thing to remember is that a nation's per capita GDP, for example, often has little to do with badminton funding. Also, the Asian teams haven't had to fork over as much so far because 6 of 12 have been held in Asia and this is the only the second time the tournament has left the Eastern Hemisphere. Vancouver, while a little closer and cheaper for Asian teams, had all the top teams represented. Incidentally, 1996, the first time the WJC was held outside of Asia, just happened to mark the beginning of the Asian lock on the gold medals.
But Some INA players will be going and will be funded by their own club. I believe that PBSI may send 6 or 7 players plus 6 or 7 from the clubs... Basically they have to depart , at least 6 days before the event....over 30 hours in travelling. overcome the jetleg, high altitude, etc.. As far as I know most of Asian will send their players..may be not Sri langka, Philiphine/Mongolia, etc...from asian powerhouse they will participate
Latest news that INA may cancel their particpation and it is up to the club if they will send their players...
MAS will send 12 players and complaining that it took so long to get Mexican visa ( been 2 months) Cjina will go and reluctantly send the big group...KOR,THai and Japan as well.. Just got these info during AJC
I can understand the reason since it's pretty darn expensive to go there. Moreover, the Ciputra-Hanoi Vietnam IC and the Smiling-Fish Thailand IS will be held in the same week and the following week. Obviously, more cost-effective Well, let's see if club players go for the Individual Event They need to make the trip worthwhile...may as well include the Atwater Canadian IC as well. If PB Djarum wants to send their coaches/players, it will probably be: Fung Permadi (coaching BS) Sigit Budiarto (coaching the Doubles) BS - Riyanto Subagja BD - Dandi Prabudita/Jones Ralfy Jansen A total of 2 officials and 3 players from PB Djarum. If other clubs want to send their players too, my preferred list will be: BS - Evert Sukamta BD - Ricky Karanda Suwardi/Wahyu Nayaka GS - Elizabeth Purwaningtyas or Yulia Yosephine, and Renna Suwarno (good results this week) GD - Suci Rizki Andini/Della Destiara Haris and Gebby Ristiyani Hiwaman/Tiara Rosalia Nuraidah XD - Ricky Karanda Suwardi/Della Destiara Haris 9 players from other clubs to make it a team of 12 players too.
it will be zulfadli, loh wei sheng,2 of the ms player,sonia,yang,ow/yew,teo/nelson,shevon/lai its not fair to others
..the cost to travel there will be pocket busting, no doubt..but the cost to stay is probably almost as cheap as in INA (esp. when one crosses over south of the border, one will feel like it's almost like INA)..But at least 6 days of stay to acclimatize??.. Hau-ge, please keep me up-to-date on who will be representing for INA??..
I do not think there is INA players at all in WJC. China will send 16 players.. also Mexcio is very slow issuing visas..I have been told...may be on certain countries..
^^Really??..^^ ..wow, that'll be a bummer if the INA squad won't be in action..*sigh*..but oh well, considering the cost, i can understand.. Like event already mentioned above, that's one of downsides if one region of the world dominates the sport and when BWF wants to hold a major event somewhere else, it turned out to be not as cost feasible to a select few countries..
You really need to travel overseas ...... Then you'll know that to get cheap tickets is a lottery. And almost impossible when getting tickets for a big team.
