I think it's a terrible case of the nerves. Saw it happened during the Uber Cup final with Jun Jae Youn taking the first set from Gong Ruina, but Gong managed to overcome that and played on. Lin Dan just has too much expectation placed on him as number #1 and for China. The guy just self-imploded. Oh well, this makes the Games more interesting now.

ATHENS, 14 August - Comments from Ronald SUSILO (SIN) after beating LIN Dan (CHN) 15-12, 15-10 in the Men's Singles Round of 32.

    Ronald SUSILO (SIN)

"It was a very tough match. LIN Dan (CHN) is a very strong opponent, but I am very pleased because I won against such a good athlete."

On his possibilities of winning a gold medal:

"I am not thinking about it. It's to early for a medal. Everything that I can I do is step by step."

I was there to see it, and I felt that Susilo thoroughly deserved his win. It was so hard on him, ranked 9th in the world and having to take on Lin Dan in the first round, but his performance was superb. He won the game, Lin didn't lose it, and there is no shame that Lin lost as his opponent was on top form.

It's ok. Lin Dan is still very young. Even though he lost, China still have Bao Chunlai and Chen Hong. I hope they win. GO~ China~:D

Somehow, I started to think that China should've pick Xia (over Lin Dan) by just knowing today's result..... Xia could probably go further rounds than Lin Dan.

Xias got more experience than Lin Dan. But it's not bad to let such young player have some experience in Olympic~
Also, I think MP99 beats Cab20 lol././. unless Xia switch to some other new racquet, he'll never able to play at any tournament again. jk...:p

well, no one could've predicted the future. Lin Dan was definitely the better choice between Xia and Lin given what they knew then.

as for the other two, i am not sure. :)

I think Feng is implying that Susilo will win the gold since Susilo is using the AT700 :)

But the competition is still far from over. Anybody can still win the gold

Anyways, a really great game from Susilo and exposing the weakness of Lin Dan at backhand :p
