Lin Dan and the 2013 World Championship qualification

teasing:not sure why u guys fancy about a all england which held 100 years later:rolleyes:

If they will really do this it must be so frustrating for Chen Long, Du Pengyu and Chen Jin being unable to participate just because Lin Dan decided to pause.

it's a no brainer really.

if Lin Dan can get back into the top 24 by the end of April, it will be Chen Long, Lin Dan and Chen Jin or Du PengYu.
If Lin Dan failed, it will be Chen Long and Lin Dan.

Yeah, I meant to say "or" instead of "and", but either way - if he can't get back into the top 24 - one of the other Chinese players has to quit because of him (if they decide so).

why do people of higher rank have to be sacrificed. can he just not enter as one of the 2 elegible for 25- 150 category

the way it work is;

as long as they are eligiable as per the ranking list on the last Thursday of April, any country can pick a maximum of 4 if they are both ranked in the top 8, max of 3 if they are all in the top 24 etc.

so, if you have players at say, 1, 2, 3, 8, 10, 20 and 50 and you want to send 1, 2, 3 and 8 that's fine, nice and easy.

but, let say if you want to send No 10 to the WC therefore as he is out of the top 8 the max number will be 3. the coach has to pick 2 from No 1,2,3,8 and 20 (not No 50 as he is outside the top 24).

Similarily, if the country decided to pick No 50 therefore only 1 from the rest can go for the max 2.

If Lin Dan failed, it will be Chen Long and Lin Dan.

Yeah, CHN still needs Lin Dan in major tournaments like World Championships, considering Guangzhou is the host for this year WC, he will not miss it...

I think for China, country comes before countryman. So it is not at all implausible that the lower rank armies sacrifice their position for LD if worst comes to worst. But I think LD will accumulate points first, which I don't think is hard at all for him, just whether he is up to it. But if worst comes to worst, the final card will be used.

Yes.... Country comes before countryman is very true in CBA.

I've no doubt Lin Dan will qualify for the WC'13 on his own merit. Just that I won't rate his chances of winning it the highest. I'd say it's Lee CW, Chen Long and Lin Dan in that order, but close. The same for next month's All England.

Intuitively speaking, I make bold to say Chen Long might become world number one by year end. Who knows, life is so unpredictable, Lin Dan may just give us another pleasant surprise.

this is the latest qualification points for the 2013 WC;

LD is actually China's No 5 atm, to qualify by right he needs to gain 15,500 points more than WZM to be at No 3.
mission impossible?

To play safe and improve Lin Dan's chances of qualifying for the WC'13, he had better register himself to play in the German, All England and Swiss tournaments in March as the IND Open is outside the cut-off date. And no, it's certainly not mission impossible.

Oh, I forgot the AUS Open, he might want to consider playing there too.

Australian Open in April is an option though.
May be he can even hop over to NZ GP the week other.

If by the time he is match fit, the 7000 + 5000 should be an easy picking.

but for what? just to let CJ and WZM know that he is not taking their places?

3 t'ments in 3 weeks!
slave driver!!!
Yeah friend, I've lost my mind.:p:D One moment I don't expect much from him, the next I'm a hard taskmaster and slave driver, how contradictory!:p:eek::rolleyes::D.

Maybe, how about German Open followed by All England, then later AUS Open? The three tourneys should help to spruce him up for the Sudirman Cup in May as the best way to regain his competitive edge, not just for the World Championship? And since he is in AUS, might as well hop over to NZ for the GP.

great minds think alike and all that

Yeah,I'd like to see WZM esp or CJ play the WC, why deny either one a spot when Lin Dan can make it on his own? In some other sports, the defending champion has automatic qualification; for chess, the world champ simply waits for the final challenger to emerge without having to play round after round.

If I were Lee CW or Chen Long, I'd much prefer to have Lin Dan playing in the WC to lend the title more legitimacy regardless whether I get to meet Lin Dan or not. Just like Chen Jin winning the 2010 WC despite not playing LD and LCW who were unexpectedly knocked out in the QFs by their respective opponents; at least nobody could retort or belittle his achievement by saying 'that's because Lin Dan didn't play'.

Oh, btw, glad to hear Lee Hyun-Il is coming back, may he play in the WC too.

Right on, the compliment is mutual.:D

I'm pretty sure both AUS and NZ would love to have Lin Dan playing there, the publicity generated, the uplifting of the tournament status, the boost it gives to promoting the sport in their countries, and so on and so forth. Will be especially good for AUS when it's already due for SS status in 2014. Hope to see it materialized.

First of all, topic itself looks weird..!!! Sorry to indulge :p. No other way.. By 2103, more than 5 generations of LinDan family would have crossed... I mean grandgrandgrand children of LinDan's son...!!! First somebody need to ask in order to change the title ... TO 2013 ....:D;):)

Please do some reading before you post anything. It's already stated that the title couldn't be amended in the 1st page of the thread. Cheers :)
