Agreed. Today CY had a off day. Credit goes to the Koreans who keep on attacking relentlessly.

i think the pressure is different. this is a national pride event and like the Olympics, they are probably instructed to gain as much medals as they can and probably have an internal goal dictated to them.

WC they have won a couple of times already. so that's just another breakfast.

yes. and i think JJS was more impressive in his smash. penetrating even the already much improved Chinese defense.

I don't think "pressure" is the main reason... As you said, it never happened before, and there is no convincing reason why it should happen this time -- OG/WC/TC/Sudirman are more important, but we have never seen CY/FHF gave up (yes they practically gave up in the 2nd half of the 2nd game) in those bigger events. This is actually the first time I saw them gave up.

IMHO, the main reason CY/FHF collapsed in the 2nd game is that JJS/LYD played too well. LYD totally dominated the net and CY just could not keep up with LYD's fast pace (which is not hard to understand for the following two reasons: 1. CY is 30 while LYD is at his best age; 2. LYD gave up XD and concentrates on MD this time. As a consequence, he is fresher than most of the times we see him -- not to say that before the tournament he can prepare for MD full time). And JJS somehow plays at his very best level this time: His smashes lethal, drives powerful, defence solid, and he hasn't done a single "stupid drop" (meaning: should smash but dropped, the drop doesn't fool anyone and actually helped opponents) so far.

In fact, it is already clear from the team event that LYD/JJS play better badminton than CY/FHF this time. CY/FHF must have realized this, and that's why they totally lost confidence at 11:7 2nd game.

Interestingly, CY/FHF suffered big losses in both AGs they attend in QF round. Last time they lost 9:21,19:21 to KKK/TBH.

Where did you get this? I don't think this is CY. He declared once on his blog that he did not register in any place such as facebook.

In his Chinese official blog, he said the exact opposite thing. He said it's all his fault.

I honestly think this stems from overtraining and over pressure from themselves or China or anything...factor in maybe an off day and you have some very bad conditions...but really credit the Koreans for pushing and playing so hard. They definitely deserve to win, and any less would make this victory very bitter.

    - And how about the 2008 OG MD Final against Kido & Setiawan?..No pressure that time also?..
    - Yes, how do you explain their loss in the 2006 AG against KKK & TBH??..

I believe that CY and FHF play with different partners in the Chinese Super League. Perhaps this time apart has affected their play together during international competition. Hence the surprising result yesterday.

But what happened at the World Championships? They steamrolled all opposition and beat KKK/TBH in 3 games at the final.

    Here's another version from BadZine.

“I made a lot of mistakes today so it was not a surprise to lose,” said Cai Yun. “We were confident before it started but we didn’t play well. Maybe we have won too many matches that we entered the court being too relaxed today. Lack of luck might be another reason.”

They should at least give some credit to Jung/Lee as well;).. The Koreans played brilliantly too..

In tennis, where most of them are American and European players, they usually give credit to their opponents when they lose. Here, in badminton it is always we didn't play well, etc...
It is the opponents play that cause you to play poorly.

    Wow, just watched the match...

CY and to some degree FHF really lost their focus, especially after the break at 7-11.
CY must have gifted at least 7 easy points from simple unforced errors. True the Koreans were playing very well... maybe LYD not having to play XD helps... but what do you do if you're stuck in a rout like that and keep making errors?

And how did the organizers happen to match them up again after only having played against each other just 2 days earlier?

Very true, the defeated will congratulate the winner for playing well and wish him all the best for the future. Roger Federer being one of them..Not sure if they mean it genuinely but it is still a very courteous gesture shown to the opponent. Badminton players have to learn these PR skills.
