Never saw that before - whipping racket and hit yourself into the eye. Poor LHI, hope it's nothing serious.

I played badminton for over 3 decades having never seen nor heard about it. That ended last summer. I didn't see it because it (yes, my own racquet) was moving too fast, but I felt it. So much blood. I have felt like such a tool for several months, until I saw Lee Hyun Il do it.

Can I assume he's OK though?

Well, from what I saw, it seems like he hurts his eyelid and not the eye itself, so he should be ok after a few days.

Not sure, possible that the eye globe itself may have sustained a blunt contusion, if the eyelid started swelling so quickly after within seconds. The force was likely greater than just a slight superficial abrasion. In which case, hopefully he didn't suffer a retinal detachment, which would require immediate laser treatment. (I'm speaking from personal experience )

It was hard to see on video, but it looked like the sclera was red, in addition to the steadily swelling lid.
Yet he wasn't blinking as much as one would expect, if the cornea had been well scratched. (Perhaps he's just incredibly tough.).
Presumably he went to an Ophthalmologist straight away?

Sharp blunt trauma to the globe (eye lid closed would protect cornea) could temporarily deform the eye to such an extent that retina detachment can occur... as I had suffered once a few yrs back. Hope he consulted an ophthalmologist and nothing serious happened.

Is he participating in any tournaments soon? If he withdraws, then I guess that's a bad sign?
    I couldn't see anything on tournament.com

He is on the lists for both the German Open and the All England. The entry deadline for both was Thursday. It doesn't mean he won't decide to withdraw sometime between now and then.

Please somebody tell me what happened now. After seeing the accident , I was really disturbed with those blood oozing out of the eyelid. Really unfortunate. I pray God for his speedy recovery.

I'm wondering too, is Lee Hyun Il coming back ? I hope his accidental self-inflicted eye injury isn't that serious as to force him into retirement.
