I remember Steen once said in commentary that a player sometimes has to take a step back to take two steps forward. This recent lull in results could have been a phase where LCW was adapting his style to his growing age. HK Open 2017 might just be the first taste of what is yet to come... Eagerly looking forward to Dubai and 2018!
Thank you for words of appreciation! Yes, I did, the whole thing. Together with the portrait itself an artwork of over a 100 hours of work and so much fun to make. And yes, I definetely would love to make and use these works to promote badminton further. Actually, I'm exhibiting it now at OSM Maarssen in the Safarihal until december 14th, together with a Lin Dan version with a giant, red dragon. After the exhibition, I thought it would be really nice to transport it to another badminton club and let more people enjoy this (and gain some popularity as an artist as well in the badminton world ). Will send some emails to several clubs in the Netherlands tomorrow and hopefully I can exhibit them soon at another place! (or get a request to make another one - if so, I want to make it better than the last one and with a whole new pillar altogether, so the entire artwork works well together and holds some connection to the player's home country)
That is more than likely, we saw it in 2015 as well, when he lost badly in Japan, Korea and Denmark Opens, but he convincingly won the last three superseries of the year in France, China and Hong Kong. His game was changed, and his game seems different here as well in Hong Kong Open (Much more willing to attack and control the rallies, using his speed more to attack rather than defend). This is awesome for the future, although to be quite honest, this is what he should have been doing from the beginning of his career, rather than wasting his best years playing a counter/defensive style
Great video. I noticed Lee had won many of his points from the cross court drop shot to the left of his opponent, wonder if that's a change in strategy on the coaching part.. he left top players like Chen Long, Shi Yuqi and Son Wan Ho absolutely lost/couldn't react at times. I remember Lee used to make his opponent's job easier by hitting shots towards his opponent, but he has minimized that in the HK open. He also used quite a few deceptive shots like the one at 1:38 in the video that change the course of his shot. He smashed quite often too in that tournament.
LCW would have won that match if not for the service judge calling literally 4-5 faults on him (Especially that one at 15-11 when he had the momentum and was coming back, Axelsen was way fooled, and it would have been 15-12) Even the 2 points he lost in the second game because of those bad calls (Steen and Gill said they were clearly bad calls) would have been enough for him to win the title in straight games
LCW was awesome during the last past of this year. His technique now looks more polished and crisp than I've ever seen it. Super impressive.
i suggest LCW should take a hiatus before Thomas Cup 2018 so that LCW would have his ranking drop and make him to play 3rd MS... this is because Malaysia Thomas Cup team is very known to the world that the 3rd MS is the weakest and easily lost when having 2-2 tie...
Realistically, there is no chance to get past the group stages 2018 Thomas Cup even with LCW. Every effort should be made to give exposure to less energy experienced players to maximise experience for future Thomas Cup. BAM please Look to the future, not just short term gains.
LCW will comeback home and start to play Purple League. Petaling BC need him... The opening match starts this afternoon, maybe LCW will be fielded at Saturday (3rd match) rather than Wednesday (2nd match). LCW: I want to make a report of robbery? Police: who robbed you? LCW: service judge. Police: what LCW: what
hope he can skipped the tournament or walkover in 1st round, so that his juniors can level up their ranking...
Actually, as long as those youngsters do not show good performance, even if LCW does not participate in any tournament before TUC, he will not be overtaken by other MAS player Just check the world ranking If he does not participate till TUC, LCW will lost about less than 30000 points, having the points of 50000 (now 79000) at TUC. The closest MAS player only have 30000 points (Lee Zii Jia and co.)
