If you compare stats from AE 2009 and SO 2009....LD has over 14 smash winners in AE while SO he has only 4...and he had quite a few big big smashes too.

I saw some changes in the way LCW played which actually corrected his losing plays in the past - in fact, I commented on these before but won't do it here coz I like to see whether if he plays these again, he will beat LD.

It is debatable when we say someone is not playing up to form because it might just be the opposition did not allow him to play his usual form. But I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say it may be so, and just wait till the next match between them to gauge whether LCW have got the upper hand now on LD.

The circumstances under which the smashes are done in AE and SO are very different. In AE, LD waited till LCW is off position before landing the big one. LCW's defense, IMHO, was as good in AE as it is in SO but being off position puts him at a disadvantage. In SO, the smashes are done with LCW fully prepared for them.

In SO, LCW played a very intelligent game. LD was off and making a lot of mistakes (2 half court lifts?) so the best strategy is long rallies to wait for his mistakes to show. LD, being off, cannot afford long rallies but couldn't do anything about it. The similar strategy was used by LD in AE.

just curious question, if LD is off form, shouldn't he be more off form at AE than at SO???

erm...basically...i dont think lindan is off form in swiss open...the more accurate statement should be:he cannot perform....

he is on form to do 20+/30+ smash...but the smash didnt score....so...ppl say off form.......

as u have so many experience of watching badminton....u should know...if he is off form....the match duration will be shorter than 50+ minutes....

I just read it the way you must have...

    Should have read:
... the best strategy against LD is long rallies to wait for his mistakes to show. ...

    ^^Most likely..^^

..these 2 will duke it out, once again, at the upcoming World Championships in India in August. Reason: LD will most likely skip the next 2 SS events.
