End of the road for Malaysian ladies who both lost tamely, but bravo for having come this far. No doubt there's luck but you must still capitalise on it. All the ladies singles quarter-finalists are comfortable victors in this round. But still awaiting result for Zhou Mi vs Xu Huaiwen.
Shock!!! Zhou Mi lost to Xu Huaiwen in 3. What's wrong with German players? Don't they respect the seedings? Bottom half open to Mia. Top half, the Chinese (Gong Ruina, Zhang Ning and Xie Xinfang) have to fight among themselves.
I'm afraid it is very difficult for our 2 M'sian ladies. If they can get a game each, it will be a great achievement. I do hope Mew Choo can do it.
Men's doubles top half. All England champs Eriksen/Hansen lost to Pramote/Tesana. Top-half quarterfinals: Kim/Ha vs Flandi/Eng Hian (60-40 given home advantage) Pramote/Tesana vs Sang/Zheng (50-50 on paper Sang/Zheng but Pramote/Tesana are very experienced pair)
The head to head record is 2-0 for Sang/Zheng... They won the Indo Open last year in a very close game, the Thais were 1 point away from lifting the trophy and hd double digit cushion in the 2nd game, bt lost in rubber... yes, Pramote is very experienced and has been around for a looong time, he is 37 ths year...
ah fixing again?? give them the benefit of doubt, we will never know what happened... a little unfair though claiming match fixing each time 2 chinese/pair were pit against each other or whn the score suggest so.. they are innocent till proven guilty, nt the other way round Lee DS/Yoo YS are out of the game, down to Kim/Yim in 3 sets...
Yim Bang Eun/Kim Yong Hyun bt Lee/Yoo in 3 sets. I think Yim/Kim were let a passage. Their ranking of 15 will certainly improve especially given that their next opponent will either be Laugesen/Mogensen or Tsai/Tseng of Taiwan. A bit of a weak quarter actually.
Yes, I had said yesterday there was a risk of Lee/Yoo giving the match to their younger compatriots... we can't judge without seeing though!
Lee chong Wei beat Kenneth Jonassen Roslin Hashim Lost to unknown joppien byoern from germany Xia beat chen yu.. as expected next will be a rematch between Wong CH and Peter Gade... Gade lost to Wong in the copenhagen masters recently.
Unknown... everything's relative! Björn Joppien is the German number one and one of the upcoming European players. He's 23rd in the world ranking and only 23 years old (relatively young for a European).
No problem! In fact, you should maybe start following the german players, because Germany is an upcoming badminton country. Germany has been Junior European Champion in front of Denmark in the three last junior championships if I remember rightly. And in this year's Thomas and Uber Cup, both teams finished second just behind Denmark in the European Phase...
I have noticed that as well. German players are becoming more prominent in the European stage, eclipsing former (or ancient) powerhouse England (where we get the name "badminton" from). And among all the German players, Joppien is the name I noticed most frequently.
