Yeah, I know the benefits [as you have just mentioned]... ;) As a general fan, I like the fact that there are less and less China vs. China or INA vs. INA... As an INA fan, I would rather see our player get beaten by a non-INA rather than seeing a 'civil-war' early in the tournament...:(:(:( At least we competed against another badminton country.

It is just very unpleasant to see something like Kido-Hendra vs. Joko-Hendra AG in the 1st round. With the nationality-separation rule, we can be spared from this uneasy experience in the 1st few rounds... :) Well, anyway, for me, the 'normal' rule is better... :)

It is the SS.. Not any "Kacang Putih" tournaments.. What the fans demand is : "ONLY THE BEST TO SURVIVE". :)
Players with lower ranking points may choose to participate in Gold Series/satellite/Regional tournaments . They should have prove that they can produce good results or even win in any tournaments before they ply their luck in the SS .. ;)

Agree with bananakid. This descendant of bananaboy is more mature than his ancestor so I'm quite impressed.
SS qualifiers can be of high calibre eg WCH,LHI who may be low ranked due to unforseen circumstances. In any case the top ranked 4 may not mean the best and if they are that good they should still fight an even battle to maintain their prowess.
Young Turks should always have some opportunities to show how far they can go otherwise rising stars may disappear before they can shine. And they get noticed more in big events so they can have more nurturing opportunities.
In tennis recently, there's the Canada's Frank Dancevic and Latvia? s Gulbis,an unknown who reached the R4 of the US Open. These youngsters are exciting to watch and they took out some top 10 players despite their inexperience.
Anyway Simon Santoso proves a qualifier's worth when he retired LD to reach the SWO07 MSF.

Don't think so. A follow on tournament is hard to win if it's consecutive week probably because of freshness factor. JO is 3 or 4 weeks after WC so it's as good as a first tournament. But it's hard to predict MS now cos CHN MS have lost their invincibility and the list of CHN MS killers has exceeded the no. of CHN MS : BP,LCW,PG,RS,SDK,WCH and maybe TH (early stage only). That's a healthy ratio favouring non-CHN MS if they are not bunched together in a draw.

U have a point though. But if we look at the draw in tennis, the top seeds will always face a qualifier in Grand Slams or be given a bye in Master series or other tournaments. Why can't badmnton?

I don't like the idea of having just 8 seeds instead of 16.

Absolutely.. SS is still way off from Grand Slam

But having 32 players in the main draw.. How to place 16 seeds i/0 8? its meant 50% to be seeded man... ;)

I n Tennis, Master series or Grand Slams who has 128 draw so it is common to have 32 seeds ( used to be 16 seeded only until many people compalined when Steffi Graf had to play Lori McNeil and lost to her at Wimbledon in the 1st round)....in Master series, it is hardly has a BYE unless it is Women tennis yournaments like TIER 1 where they have 64 draw but only with 48 players so all top seeded players get BYE.....

I hope badminton will reach to Tennis standard where the prize money for SS from US$ 200K to 400K...

Would it be better instead to expand the SS field from 32 to 64?

I guess the propose of having SS is maintain its standard above all the rest of the badminton tournaments. That might excludes REgional Games, such as ASIAN ; Olympics...
I strongly support the idea of having limited the participants in SS. It will makes the games more exciting..
There is no short cut for any players.. Whoever wanna go into SS.. Must achieve something more than extra in lower grade tournament to earn them self a place in the main draw of SS..
Its the world's trend now.. Just as Grand Slam in Tennis.. Premier League in English Football....
