More cases of our Malaysian coaches helping others... https://sportstar.thehindu.com/badm...minton-championships-2023/article66548575.ece
So far into 2023...with about 10 tournaments behind us... Malaysian achievements have been a big fat zero. I suspect this winning streak will continue on to next year.
I really think grass root girl players is an untapped potential in Malaysia. The drop off in girl players by U14 level is incredible with some local tournament organisers not even bothering to have a girls category.
Perhaps due to low participation of U14 girls. I just enrolled my 8yo daughter to a badminton coaching class, and there's no other girls around the same age at the class.
Nice to know you signed your daughter up. Because the participation numbers are low, it’s actually quite easy to see results if parents are willing to put the time and effort in to support the child. Much easier when compared to the boys where the competition is fierce.
I do see girls in coaching classes at the centre where I am playing, of course not as many as the boys. For this, the girls may have to spar with the boys which should be good for them.
Seems like BAM been pushing Justin into tournaments non stop for the past months. He seems to have a bright future based on his performances in the past tournaments, bad luck for him to suffer such a serious injury at just 19yo.
The disastrous junior campaign this year may have been strained due to long cut backs from previous ministry. No thanks to the scandals. However we are hopeful with the fresh Hannah Yeoh now she could could do her good work here on. Remember in yesteryears we have been producing world junior champions consistantly, was when we still had u18 category in the national junior circuit but was scrapped later presumably due to the mentioned constraints. This move has seen the repercussion in years to come if not addressed by BAM. Juniors now play up to 16 yo after that they began to disappear mostly due to pressures of SPM. Many dont require to return back to their state ba because there were no more u18 in Junior Elite Tour now. But this is a critical age treshold for world junior championship which is 18 yo max and our u18 juniors basically lost their momentum after 16yo country wide. This year bad results were worsen post MCO which had frozen every players from tournaments. Restore back the u18 category in JET which the grassroots vie among the ABM elites in the finals to keep ABM elites on their toes.
Achievements by BAM so far..in the year. Still big fat 0. Not even quarter finals of any significant tournaments
Not only disappointed, but embarrassed at the state of Women's Team. Meanwhile, Kenny Goh (BAM General Secretar) statement: "Young team (although 20-21+ age), so do not have to blame anyone! Especially not BAM!"
It shows the current ABM programme outsourced to Michelle Chai and Dr Tim Jones model are not working out. On the contrary it has gotten worse since their appointment and the constant changing of coaches from chinese coaches days. Our players now are too deep in their comfort zone in the new ABM structure. Phillipines players are way below our girls in the current BWF ranking. Our women's badminton are at the lowest ebb.
Even the u17 regional tournament vs Djarum looking at the scoreline was a comprehensive defeat. Is there some fundamental flaws im the present set up in ABM that are escaping everybody's eyes or perhaps pretend not to see? Players involving in other businesses got distracted in their focus in badminton training?
Too comfortable in ABM. The training regiment is obviously not up to standard and the players mind is all in la-la-land and social media. I have seen better players in local tournaments.
Michelle Chai has resigned and Tim Jones got the sack. How much will change if Norza and Kenny Goh are still there?
Still its down to the poor foresight of the current powers of BAM who remain unchanged for decades. They have much to be responsible for as well. The decline of Malaysia world ranking is clear testament that they are expired old guards with outdated inclination to world views and methodologies. Other non-core badminton countries have progressed at much faster rate eg. Vietnam, France, Spain, Singapore and now Phillipines! We were once top 3 in Asia after China, Indonesia, Malaysia. Then Japan, Korea, Denmark rise up to the challenge when they started to contract foreign coaches, including coaches from our own backyard. Then even India, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong and some European countries like Estonia, Germany have strong active local leagues. As ABM is highest level institutional academy with full Government resources, my perception is that Michelle Chai should have specialised programme tailored to build the cream in the country, to be envied by those who cannot get in. They have the privilege to have access to the highest level of training and sports science knowledge physically and mentally. The fact that our girls lost clean out 0-3 and 0-5 in two simultaneous tournaments shows clearly Michelle Chai may not have one or even if they do, it is not effective at all. The girls are simply not sharp and hungry to pursue the pinnacle of this sport. I suspect their training programmes are too losely structured with unclear measurement of their progress. Trainings are too general with little or no personalisation. I belief their rewards systems are not motivating enough and players are easily satisfied and no hunger for glory. Compared to how the EPL prepare their next game with a mentality of "do or die", either you step up or dont get to play, its 3 points to glory or zero point doomed to be relegated, loose their top manager, sell away players and lower future salary payouts. Our ABM players lack that grit and drive. Seems they are drifting along the river following where the current leads them.
