Hi need a little clarification on the shuttle hitting the line. I was always lead to believe if it touches the line its in. From the rules and regs this is also correct.

However tonight ive been told if the shuttle hits the line but then bounces outwards it is out. If it hits the line but bounces back in towards the court it is in.

    Thanks

    That's ridiculous!
If the shuttle hits the line, it's in, no matter what happens after that. Except for an overrule from the umpire maybe... :D

it should be the first point of contact with the ground that counts.. it can spin in or spin out but only where it touches first will count

Also any part of the shuttle can hit the line, it doesn't have to be the cork part. I've had situations where the feather has grazed the line and slide out, but that is still in and legal. I hope that clarifies things.

    Kindest regards,

What happens if the cork touches outside the line first, while the skirt/feathers touch the line a few milliseconds afterwards? Hawkeye will tell us but only if we challenge the line judge decision.. lol

So, you clearly saw the skirt touch the ground first?? and you were down low enough to see the cork clearly touch after?? Besides the fact that in a completely friction free place it would just be possible on the diagonal net to back corner, on earth however we have friction so unfortunately the massive difference in friction between cork and skirt make it not possible.

Unless the shuttle has some crazy tumble on it, always just look at the cork for line calls.

Yeah, feather first not possible in the realm of reality with conforming equipment
