We'll see with this KM vs WTW re-match if WTW was holding himself a bit (or not) during the group stages. I think he was but I also think KM will play even harder tomorrow.

The BWF decided to do this draw style for the final phases because if it would have been the first of group A vs the second of group B etc, we would have probably see some players trying to finish second of their group to avoid a certain player or pair. This way it is a lot of re-matches from.the group stages but no one can really say some players sabotaged their third match.

I don’t know, but I feel like a complete random draw would completely remove such an incentive. You could still try to lose to get runner up if your teammate is a runner up so you will be in opposite halfs

Or did i get my info wrong and it really is a complete random draw?

I thought it was a random draw for the final stage by looking at the group results and how the semi finals arrangement don't make any mathematical sense but I didn't see the official rules TBH.

Yeah I think yuquall said the runner ups will definitely be split so the draw was just a 50/50, in which there would still be incentive to deliberately lose the 4th match

I just realize that if Chou won Chen Long, we would have seen 2 Taipei in men's single in semi-final.

Really does not make sense to play the same players in the group. A better way to resolve this is winner gets to choose who they want to play. If there is no agreement, then maybe a coin toss to decide which winner decision is final.

I would still sabotage my match if say I am yamaguchi if say I have no chance against tty but I can probably beat cyf or okuhara.

For all his efforts, he still had to play the best of the best in both disciplines.

Just checked tomorrow`s schedule. Could it be that in all disciplines but womens doubles there are re-matches of the group stage? That`s just insanely stupid and much worse than match fixing! Whoever decided that, should be banned.

Watanabe going 6:0 is a very strong performance. But I believe he`ll loose both re-matches unfortunately.

Stupid right? Watanabe played hard to defeat those 2 top opponents. Now he has to play them again. If I were watanabe, I will be very demotivated. Anyway bwf mess up in many things including Michelle li. People working there must be pretty incompetent . Reminds me of my previous company. But then sometimes being at the right place at the right time helps.
