So I've read this thread a couple of times and I'm still confused

Is this a poll about the way you wrap your hand around the racket or is this about the actual overgrip tape that you wrap around the original racket (e.g. black) grip?

Because it seems that some people are answering as if the poll is asking for where you place your hand (e.g. higher near the cone for doubles or lower for singles or clears)

but yet the title of this thread is:

How far up the racket do you wrap you grip tape?

And some are showing beautiful pics of their taping jobs.

Someone clear this up for me before I become batty. :D

I believe the its asking for how far we grip our grip up the racquet but some people are assuming how far we grip it is actually how far we hold it, and it might be true but we can also move where we hold it during the game, so its not a dead grip.

The question is pretty clear to me. Many players have dynamic gripping technique (or way of holding the racquet). I taped mine to the cone, covering it completely, because I often hold the cone for faster swing/defense. Usually hold it lower down for overhead shots/drives.

:D dynamic gripping technique!..sounds awesome, the technique I used is called the "severe tropical cyclone spinning style".

The reason I posted the original question was because I am now aware of changing my grip more during the course of a game whereas before I thought I just used a universal grip and very rarely changed even when at the net.

The reason I grip upto the start of the shaft is because I now hold the racket up there.

Even if the towel grip is all the way up to the top of the shaft it shouldn't hamper the play that much, the weight is minimal for the extra grip but the only other thing I can see which might affect the playability is the drag instead of the usual aerodynamics.

Perhaps I should give it a try gripping to the shaft  since I sometimes uses "short grip" style hitting shuttles.

    Hmm......

what is the effect of this "severe tropical cyclone spinning" shot? Does it spinning like boomerang? how to do that?
Does Overgrap means that you wrap the first grip with another grip so it become thicker?

I used to only have the handle gripped but lately i started gripping the cone and 2 cm on the shaft. I know it is less useful in singles than doubles, but there's no harm of having it? Just when that sudden moment comes and you need it and it's too slippery then it might actually HARM you...so why don't just grip all the way to the cone? most grip tape give you more than enough to do so. just my thought...and honestly, i find gripping anymore than 2 cm onto the shaft pretty ugly...and not to mention useless, unless you have some KILLER SMASH that KILLS and need to slow it down to prevent injuring your opponent? hehehe it's late at night, sorry...that just shows it's time for me to hit the bed

i wrap it over the cone and up to the shaft for several reasons.
    1) serves for doubles.
    2) for the odd smash i might want to do with most of my hand up on the cone.
    3) taping it is much easier when its up on the shaft. instead of needing to use like 3 inches of tape, i just cut off a single "YY YONEX" off the supplied tapes with the supergrap and thats enough.

wow - how did you get the cone so tidy - i've just wasted three grips trying to get it up the cone like that - sort of got there in the end, but it's not half as tidy as i'd like - plus i'm giving towelling grips a try for the first time - hopefully it'll rid me of my callouses, and stop me going thru so many grips... but that remains to be seen..

any advice on getting it that tidy would be appreciated...

    thanks,

    Coops

Towelling grips are more difficult to wrap neatly, because they tend not to stretch as much as PU grips.

The way to wrap a grip neatly is to stretch it really tight as you near the top.
