Hi guys. I organise a mens doubles night. We are trying to play with and against each other but sometimes it doesn't work out. I'm trying to find a formula so everyone plays with everyone and against everyone else. I thought of giving a player a number when they walk in through the door and then on a sheet of paper it tells you who you are playing with and against. Eg. 1 - 2 v 3 - 4

Can anyone help work out the playing orders for 6 and 8 players?

You're probably looking at something like a box game / round robin format, take a look at the this pdf it's for running a tennis round robin but essentially the same thing. at the bottom are the grid/boxes you just fill out with your pairs/players.

Edit: a small whiteboard and marker pen makes this even easier drawing up grids rather than printing out anything.
