Actually, they didn't passed the qualifying matches. There were no qualifying matches in men's Singles. They all proceeded to the main draw directly.

Haven't yet checked the papers; maybe ricky will have more info.

BTW, the hall is quite cool there. It has airconditioning and really can affect the shuttle sometimes.

Chen Hong beat Park Tae Sang
Ng Wei beat Wu in 3 sets

    That's all I got.

The newspaper bemoans the lack of press facilities and TV coverage and sponsors..

One of HKBA's representatives explains the lack of preparation time being a factor. Originally, the tournament was scheduled as a 1 star tourney.

Sponsors were not sought orginally. Actually, HKBA seem to have a hard time of things given the short notice. (extra funding to upgrade the tournament was only arranged just recently)

There are also no arrangements for live internet update of scoring.

I'll try my best on the days that I go down (which will be Friday) to jot down results. Will try to pop in on Thursday as well.

the results are out in the worldbadminton.net. Great to hear that Choong/Lee beat Hian/Limpele. :) I think most probably they will meet the KOreans in the quarter finals.

If that's the case, it might because Sang/Zheng were too tired for the final games between them in the "city game" on 10/27??? I heard they were playing against each other in the MD final. Zheng Bo won the title while teaming up with Bao CL.

Simon Santoso is a very good indonesian junior... he already won against Lee Tsuen Seng in Malaysian Open!

Jonas and Thomas are playing each other now (8.15pm)

This match is supposed to be part of the afternoon session!!!!

The evening session has yet to start (which is mainly singles).

I think tonight, the matches will run well past 12 midnight.

Looks like a topic of discussion for IBF - apart form S'pore, has this hapenned in any othre recent tournaments?

In most actually...All England, Malaysian Open. Denmark and Dutch Open were quite bad as well, lasting till 1-2 am.
The solution...start from Monday, qualifiers start on the preceding weekend.

Look at tennis, big tournaments last across 2 weeks.

Did not receive updated score yet. According to what I see now, the might CHN "civil war" is going to take place:

    - In MS, Lin vs Xia, and Bao vs Chen. Hate to see 2 top elites have to pack this ealier.

    - Interesting one in WS, Pi vs Yao, both ex-CHN. So, even them will put a "civil conflict" after both left CHN. ;)

    - Zhang/Zhang vs Yang/Zhang in WD. Seems Yang/Zhang should pull it off, but Zhang/Zhang seems show good stuff in recent events.
