If you want to bet, it's better to bet at the third round when you already saw their performance, and not bet on the final matches

Any news yet on how serious Higashino’s ankle injury is?

It was really touching to see how attentive Watanabe was, and how well he seemed to control the situation, ... whilst the coaches were just idly standing by.

I haven't yet found any news on how extensive the injury is. This could potentially have serious implications for the Sudirman Cup.

I agree. Arisa has since posted on Twitter appearing to be positive but yes, no news yet as to how serious the injury actually is. She seemed to be in quite some pain though before she was carried out.

I think it's a slight injury, need 1 week or 2 weeks for recovery.

In the case that Arisa cannot play mixed double, we can take Misaki or Nagahara to substitute for Arisa's position. And who know it would be a boom ^-^

I don't worry at all. Anyway, XD is not a trump card of Japan team

Hopefully not too severe. Fortunately she wasn't applying her full body weight on it when it happened. May be a few weeks before she can even train on court. [IMG]

That's tough to see, man. Ankle sprains like this (assumingly) take a several weeks to a few months to be okay, that is, for basketball players. Usually happens when they jump to take a shot and land on defender's foot. Arisa's could be more fortunate since she it was not a jump landing.

I can't help but cringe every time I see pictures like that.

This will be a couple of weeks away from a tournament court for sure, even if all the tendons are still intact. I wish her a speedy recovery!

It was too painful for me to see also. The only substitute I see is Mayu Matsumoto and Nagahara as they are versatile both at the front and back. If Mayu and Yuta pair up, we'll have the most creative XD pair.

More likely Nagahara or Matsutomo as they have some XD exposure. That is if Matsutomo is playing. But anyway, I agree about Watanabe being attentive. He gave up the play when he found out she was on the floor. Most players will play it out till rally is over and even then, they just stand around. Clearly, he cares more about the partnership than just results.

Didn't see the match or injury, just saw the pic here posted. Will not look up video, having suffered ankle rolls in past. Ankle rolls are hard, will depend on severity of grade as far as comeback. Grade I, probably can get back within couple weeks to top form. Higher grades will take much longer, several weeks 3-8 or more. As professionals they put it all on the court, there's no taking it easy in the tournaments. Not social play or leisure play, etc. I'd say brace for sure when she returns so ankle has added support. Wish her well in recovery.

Last year in January, Momota got an ankle sprain. He needs around 3 months to be a full recovery. Hope everything goes well for Arisa.

What did Watanabe say to the Chinese pair when they were coming towards them?

As I said, Higashino can walk now. (after few days).
it could take 1 or 2 weeks for full recovery.

With me, just 3 days and I can run like horse in the court ^-^ higashino walk.png

Sorry to say, but being able to walk says nothing about the actual severity of the injury. Speaking from my own experience, you can even walk with a fully torn ligament after a couple of days, but still it will be a long time before the joint can hold the full load of badminton movements again.

But of course, that picture is a very promising and positive sign and I would be super happy to see her back on court very soon, but I'm afraid that time will have to tell when that will be.
