I was able to be much more relaxed on my play today leading to better overhead shot quality , power and recovery. I think I need to work a lot more on my drives and my smash defense. My timing is off which leads to shots lifts or weak returns. I also have been able to load up more right leg more so !

I had a second time this week of playing. I was able to be much more relaxed on my strokes and it helped not only on my overheard shots but also my drives and defense. Overall I played very good and saw some good progress. I have had some decent backhand rear court shots

0:45 your lunges seem a bit awkward to me. The right foot should lead the lunge instead of following. Not really sure though
3:30 your arm should be in ready position earlier

4.23 nice movement. Be careful when you move out to the forehand moving from the base. On that first step out, your arm still stays in front of the body. Try to do that first step and raise the racquet arm to the side at the simultaneously. It will feel a bit awkward at first but you will hit the forehand drives better because your arm is in position earlier

I was able to remember to be much more relaxed which helped in all areas of my game and stroke. I also figured out what I was doing wrong on my smash defense , it was my grip. I know that I can do it much better and I can’t wait to keep practicing with the correct grip. I also tried to get further behind the shuttle on overhead shots which helped tremendously. I was pleased with the whole night of play

    That looks pretty good.

On your overhead, after the body rotation, try to swing the left leg backwards about two feet more and make your left foot point to the left a bit more when it lands instead of towards the net.

That should help you a lot in being more stable when you land.

I need to practice this a lot more with shuttles and not just shadow work

the issue now is finding club time to do that, it’s almost impossible

From the matches you have shown us, you are very focussed and intense on the game. Select some lower level games where the pace is slower and the score doesn’t matter - check your footwork in these games in between points and shadow one or two times before the next point starts. You see the top players do that in their matches as well

I paid for the online coaching from badminton insight. It was well worth the money. Not only did they do a 19 page write up on my play but they also made a custom video so that i can see exactly how to work on the things they noticed. Anyways i have made some good progress since then.

Proper backhand grip using my thumb more, also having a more relaxed grip. And finally when I am in the rear court, moving back to the middle rear after an overhead shot as opposed to moving back to the rear middle.

working on using my thumb more in my back hand grip, being more relaxed especially in my grip and also moving back to the middle after rear court overhead shots

Today I played great, I was much more relaxed naturally and my defense was much much better

Thanks again to the help from Badminton insight. There is so much more from their coaching that I can still implement. I really enjoy seeing the sharp increase in improvement after asking for their help

I see from the recent video you have not been able to effect this change yet.

You are correct and because of this i have noticed my backhand rear court recovering is limiting my next shot.... :(
