An interesting one, really emphasizing my point: Nguyen vs. Chou 3:2 Advantage Nguyen (or we could just say, its completely open). But: 2014 and before: 3:0 (to Nguyen) 2015 and after: 0:2 (to Chou) So, complete the sequence to guess the outcome of the next match: Win, Win, Win, Loss, Loss, ? And Chou is now 26 years old, still getting stronger, while we know what's going to happen to Nguyen.
Statistically, Alan has to include the whole data, it is for us to analyze the H2H records. As for the problems you pointed out, I'm fully aware and was the first to mention it. I believe most people don't just take H2H at face value and will look deeper into it, the coaches and players themselves do, I'm sure.
>> the coaches and players themselves do Take it for face value or look deeper into them? I suppose you mean the latter? As for fans and TV viewers, I think you overestimate them as a large group. If presented with a H2H SUMMARY stat (as on TV or here in this thread), I think it's by far the minority that logs on to bwf.tournamentsoftware.com to get a feel for the numbers themselves. I'm aware that badmintoncentral.com forum users probably have a lot of people who would actually do that - we do represent the most hardcore fans of the game...
Obviously, my meaning is very clear. All those who really bother to look at H2H records, esp the coaches and players themselves, would know better than to look at them at face value.
