Another defeat at R2 in Malaysia International Challenge. I think it is safe to say that she won't reach high level performance until about 21-22, and will take even more time to really become a top player (about 24 maybe). Pretty late compared to WS from other countries which often already reaches the top at about 21. Her motivation to thrive further and be a top player looks questionable though.

Well, I guess Indonesia can wait for another 10/20 years to have a strong WS player, or even longer

Previous WJC winner is Girl Single such as WL, WYH, SN, CM, RI, AY, NO is successfull in the senior stage, at least with multiple SS titles and top 5 in the ranking.

Can Gregoria do so ? ;)

Her run in the beginning of 2018 came to end with a loss to Nitchaon Jindapol yet again :(.

When did exactly Gregoria lost for the second time against Nitchaon Jindapol?

BTW she won twice against Nitchaon Jindapol at Uber Cup (2016 & 2018). She did it.

Her 3 of 4 Uber Cup matches were her revenge against her previous defeat:

GMT really badly injured this time. I'm really worried about her bc as rumoured said she's having hnp. Hopefully she get well soon.

    What’s hnp?

Edit. I found two diagnoses. Herniated disc or precursor of cancer of the colon

Yes it's herniated disc, but it's still rumoured. Hopefully it's false rumours or it didn't become serious.

Gregoria is scheduled to meet RI in the upcoming Malaysia Open. This is their fourth meetings. Under the new INA WS coach, I expect Gregoria to give her best and fight until the end against RI. Han Yue, runner up and her final opponent at WJC 2017, managed to put up a good fight against RI in SF India Open. Now, she is ranked higher than Gregoria. I hope Gregoria can catch up soon.

Patience, Gregoria Mariska is only 19 years old, a very promising up-and-comer. Even Fitriani Firtriani and Ruselli Hartawan are not to be underestimated.

I feel that INA WS are facing a similar problem as the CHN WS, youthful, around the ages of 19 - 21/22, still not experienced enough but have room for progress. I believe its a matter of time, one or the other, most likely GM atm, may make a big breakthrough.

Notably, badminton is still hugely popular in INA and she has a long and illustrious tradition of producing great players, and the foundation is still rock-solid.I don't think the slump period will stretch for too long, probably going through the kind of ups-and-downs that China is also going through now, a cyclical thing.

I guess we can only hope while continuing to do our utmost that the down-cycle doesn't last too long or it may be become a depression, so to speak.

But with your, esp MD, WD and XD doing quite well, and MS already showing signs of healthy regeneration, I trust it won't be long before INA badminton is shining bright again.

By the way, what happened to Hanna Ramadini, she once caught my attention ?

Hanna quitted from national team since last year. I don't remember much about the reason. Probably for study reason or unable to keep up the pressure.

With the new WS head coach, Rionny Mainaky, in the team, I am sure that INA WS will develop even more. INA WS has never been the same since Susi retired. But, with GMT, I believe that INA WS can reach greater heights. Fitriani is also done well lately.

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, the INA WS young up-and-comer to watch. I mean, beating Akane Yamaguchi , the reigning world champion twice in as many weeks in a month is no mean feat (unless AY is nursing an injury or sick or something, which she's not).

There are two other young WS whose names I can't recall offhand, they showed potential too.
