KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair of Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty have a good chance of reaching their first-ever semi-finals in a Grand Prix tournament when they compete in the Korean Open, which begins in Incheon City on Wednesday.

Eei Hui-Pei Tty, currently ranked eighth in the world, have been seeded third in the US$250,000 tournament.

Their main challengers are expected to be seventh seeds Gail-Emms-Donna Kellogg of England.

They will probably meet the English pair in the quarter-finals.

Said national coach Cheah Soon Kit yesterday: “Eei Hui and Pei Tty must reach the last eight to maintain their world ranking. But there is certainly a chance for them to go through to the semi-finals.â€

However, Eei Hui-Pei Tty will have to be cautious in the first round as they are up against South Koreans Ha Jung-eun-Oh Seul-ki.

The other Malaysian pairs to join Eei Hui-Pei Tty in Incheon City for the first Grand Prix tournament of the year are Fong Chew Yen-See Phui Ling and Ooi Sock Ai-Mooi Hing Yau.
