Hmmm, makes me think that only 'special' players can win big tournaments. If Kevin can't win big with Marcus and later win big with his future partner, then it's like proving who is really not special. I am sure most of us agree that Marcus is not 'special' in traditional sense.
Rian ardianto is the perfect partner for kevin if he somehow can cut down his unforced errors. more power from the back, better defense, better in the flat game, and has great awareness on court. but I don't think they'll split fajar/rian.
Ahsan/hendra have a nice record at WBC. Is it gonna be a trend, that they'll win a tournament if minions lost in 1st round (like all england)? We'll see. Still long way to go tho, I'll just watch this WBC lightheartedly to avoid another shock
I think Kevin was fully aware since mid G2 and he did remarkably well enough on his part and even more. His facial expression was dead serious as if he was playing Ahsan/Hendra. He intercepted and blocked some of the opponent shots before it reached Marcus. Sometimes he overdid it, but it was understandable considering. It's doubles. Kevin had done his part. Marcus needs to do his part. Tough luck.
I know, Kevin worked more than he had to. For me, it's just frustrating this kind of pattern from gideon always pops out in very important tournaments. Of course Gideon should work on his part, but just in case (I really hope it won't happen tho) it doesn't turn the way they plan it, Kevin will be ready to play 1 against 2. And no WBC next year, huuh another disappointment Well, come back much much stronger minions!!
The margin between success and failure is very small. li/liu survived their match against goh/tan last year and ended up taking the gold medal. didn't happen to minions this year or 2 years ago.
Won't say they are minions kryptonite though just yet. At least not until another 2 matches lol Against Goh/Tan might be the keyword
Looking at F1 tracks in their jersey, I guess Yonex wanted the Minions to race to the finals but the Minions misunderstood that the tracks are actually for the race to go home Play hard. Train harder.
maybe the nerves comes into play, but they lost 14-21 in the second game, and I don't feel their win in the first game was that convincing either. maybe they need to add something into their game. when they meet a pair like seo/choi who can match them in the flat game and played good defense they didn't look that dangerous. suddenly I remember steen's comment last year that although minions have gameplan (ofcourse), but the gameplan mostly depends on what kevin could do, different from ahsan/hendra or fajar/rian who have more strict gameplan.
