Or she tried to play being sick and just couldn't anymore at some point?

Again let's not be biased and dismiss all possibilities...

I hope typing that makes you feel really good about yourself.

Personally, I like Marin a lot. I find her strength of character admirable, and she appeared unexpectedly gracious when I watched her live at the Japan Open last year. So, I am probably biased, but...

I don't think that she is the type of person who retires just because she is losing badly. And, indeed, a quick glance at tournament software shows that she has only retired twice since 2015, one of those retirements being due to the serious injury she sustained earlier this year. As such, I am presuming that she will have had good reasons for throwing in the towel yesterday. Just maybe, she tried her utmost to finish the match, but hit that wall at 13-1.

At the very least, she deserves the benefit of the doubt. Marin has just returned from a career-threatening injury. If she is suffering from a fever, then it is not really in her interest to risk another injury. She probably should have just given a walkover from the outset, but erroneously thought that she could pull through, I don't know.

I see that Daren Liew is not being criticised for retiring after one game. I am assuming that he has a better excuse. :rolleyes:o_O

And again, I don't see anything wrong with her timing or her excuses to retire. She went as far as G2 interval tried a couple more rallies before retiring. It was only R1 and it was TTY not some unseeded lower ranked opponent.

It doesn't and I really fail to see why it would... o_O

I will just add it wasn't personal towards you and I hope it didn't come across as offending. Apologies if it did.

I simply wanted to point out how you and other assumed the worst of a player because of biased opinion without giving any credits or yet simply the good old benefit of the doubt to that player. Regardless of who is she/he. Moving on without holding any grudge I'm hoping... :)

I didn't say she lied, I didn't say she was "butt hurt". You made that up and then proceeded to call me "low" for those things I didn't say.

You LITERALLY wrote "not only attacking you personally @Cunning Linguist"
If you want your statements to not come across as personal attacks, you probably should avoid typing that you're personally attacking someone.

I initially wrote a lot more but decided to do away with it, because halfway through I thankfully realized I really don't give a ****. :D
Is my opinion on this matter important? No. Do I want to talk about Carolina Marin? No. Do I want to talk to someone who willfully makes up "quotes" in order to call me "low" and then openly states his aim to "attack" me? Nope.
I'm very pleased to hear you don't hold any grudges, though. I was kind of worried there for a bit.

Looking at the matches today, I don't think there will be any notable upset today.

Let's see which one of us is right. I still think that CL will beat him today. If your prediction is right, I will praise you as a seer. :D

Nothing could do but being dictated by his opponent in entire match, 12-21 / 7-21, the clash between silver and bronze medalists of recent WChampionships. Antonsen prevails following Axelsen, Gemke, Jorgensen into last sixteen.

Slow pace match at the moment between these two veterans, Lin nails crucial first game, 21-19 against the average Chen.
