Ukraine taking the first match versus England with 21-17 21-17 win in the mixed ... Wonder what is wrong with Leonov, him not being in the lineup at all? Still, they have a good opportunity of knocking them out now. Russia taking the XD in a sloppy match to go 1-0 up and Germany as expected taking the XD as well to go 1-0 up ...

I suspected that Germany could win (probably one of only a few) Denmarks strengths are MS, and MD. However in the juniors, their WS is weak (in comparison to Deprez) and Germany have strong XD, MD and WS, WD isn't bad either. Although I did find it funny that Axelsen destroyed Lang 21-5, 21-6, if anyone apart from Quach or Fladberg gets more than 12 off him in any game, I will be impressed
Could isn't exactly would . Of course they could if everything went their way which it did. Colberg/Poulsen beat Schwenger/Hettrich at the German Jr last month and from what I see the GR usually lose versus danish pairs so they really played out of their skin today. Lene Clausen has beaten Deprez before but given that she already lost earlier in the week I would perhaps have liked to see Mette Poulsen play the WS (have to check if it was her and not Kjaersfeldt that I saw ); but with the individual event coming up playing someone else is almost a vote of no confidence. But it says enough there are no danish seeds in WS, perhaps for lack of participation ... German MD is decent but that point should always have been Denmark's (even with a different pair). Would be surprised if they (GER) live up to their #2 seed ...
I see it was Kjaersfeldt who beat Deprez at the Danish Junior Cup in October (with Colberg/Poulsen beating Schwenger/Hettrich yet again), Clausen beat Deprez in a friendly and the other way around as well in a double header back in August ... (but it was a lefty I saw so must've been Poulsen) I see Holzer/Schwenger beat Astrup/Fladberg at yet another team event: 6-Nations 2010: 2.HD: Fabian Holzer & Max Schwenger - Kim Astrup & Rasmus Fladberg 11:21 21:17 21:13
Look at Sweden always being 5th-6th-7th in the past and what has become of that... Juniors, "seniors" (Uber Cup semifinalists in 92 and 94, medals at the World Championships, good rankings all around), it all went down the drain in the last few years... The fall of a badminton nation. Someone should write a book about it.
yes i have always wondered what happened to sweden...anyway germans are making good progress....and ukranians O.O..russians improved greatly too
Russia has done very well the last 12 years, perhaps in the inbetween still (inbetween 1991 and 1999). From 1999-2011: 2-3-3-2-4-5-2 (and 1-3-6-2 for 91/93/95/97). Better than England and Netherlands (and Sweden and France the other 6-Nations countries) Only joined the finals in the last set WD, expecting it had finished already actually . Very frustrating I would think if you were the Russian coach, all they did was lift in the final stage of the match ... just asking for trouble .
Over the last 20 years Russia have performed second best after Denmark only in fact. Best performing nations 1991-2011: Denmark 1.9th place avg. Russia 3.0th place avg. Germany 3.4th Netherlands 3.9th England 4.2th Sweden 8.2th (Poland might have even done better than Sweden after these last two failures for Sweden in 2009 and 2011)
Look at Scotland, they were ranked 6th in 2007, in 09 they fell to 26th ! Actually, why were they so highly ranked ? I can't think of any great players, that would make that team
I suppose so still none of them really have made any impact in European badminton, unlike other nations. Any idea what the 09 team was
