let's take a look at the face-off on the semi-final day.

Men's singles

Wong CH vs. Shon Seung Mo - haven't heard much about what exactly happened in the ChenH vs. Shon game, but apparently Chen ran out of gas. whatever happened there, Wong is still the favorite to win this match.

Bao vs. Xia - Bao, Xia - what a touch match to call again. Bao appears to have overcomed his mental weaknesses in this WC. and as a result, he will be very dangerous indeed. i wonder how Bao will fare against Wong if he goes into the final.

Women's singles

Zhou Mi vs. Gong Ruina - an attacker vs. a runner. this is the repeat of the WC final in 2001. Zhou has been a bit shakey in this WC and Gong seems to be in great form. my vote here goes to Gong.

Mia vs. Zhang Ning - from what we read from Camilla, Zhang Ning has brought her game into another level with increased speed. i wonder if Mia would be able to keep up. Zhang is the favorite to win here.

Men's doubles

Sang Yang / Zheng Bo vs. Jonas/Paaske - the Chinese are on fire. they have achieved their target of reaching the semi, but since they have made it that far, they might as well go all the way.

Cai Yun / Fu Haifung vs. Sigit/Candra - man, trying to make any comments about these matches are getting tougher and tougher. Cai/Fu are also on fire. Tang XinFu is definitely the man of the year. but i am not sure how they'd go against the mighty C&S. i believe it will be a close game and probably C&S will prevail at the end.

Women's doubles

Wei Yili / ZhaoTT vs. Yamada / Yamamoto - Wei/Zhao. period.

Huang Sui / Gao Ling vs. Rikke / Ann-Lou - having to play till rubber set against some no name Japanese pair already tell us the ability of this Danish pair. so Huang/Gao should take the match pretty easily.

Mixed doubles

Zhang Jun / Gao Ling vs. Jonas/Rikke - if Jonas/Rikke ever lift, they will be in trouble as Zhang will pound the shuttle to the floor. it is great that Zhang isn't playing MD anymore as he can now focus on XD. Rikke is a fast and smart player at the net, but it will take a lot to be faster than Gao Ling. so i think Rikke will lose to Gao on their second encounter of the day.

ChenQQ / ZhaoTT vs. Kim Dong-Moon / Ra Kyeung Min - ZhaoTT while a great player, is slow on the net, and definitely slower than Ra. also Kim/Ra not playing in MD/WD anymore this time they will have plenty of energy unlike 2001 WC. they have a high chance of re-claiming the XD crown....

At this point (Semi-finals), can we safely say that China's already got two golds in the bag? IMHO yes. Both Women's only events are China's.

In MS, even though I like WCH, I hope Shon wins because he is a less threat to Chinese. I don't understand why many claim WCH has highest chance for gold right now? Xia has owned Wong on every last occasion played and Bao is perhaps in best form of his life in a long while!

Is there a chance for Cai/Fu to beat Wijay/Budiarto? I know the Indos are on fire, crushing with ease Cheng/Wang today. But Cai/Fu played quite well recently and beat a well-reputated Danish pair in Eriksen/Lundgaard.

I think we all should congratulate Jonas R. on reaching two semi-finals! Great job to him, especially as his pairs are the last Danish left in WC. Hope to hear from him in the near future.

Can't wait for tomorrow.

In MS,

Wong CH vs Shon SM
- head-to-head clash is 4-1 in Wong's favour.
Wong won their last encounter in Kota Bahru during the Malaysia-Korea friendlies.
Shon's only victory was on his home soil during last year's Korean Open.
It could be a tight match, as what I said earlier, the Korean is a fighter and Wong will not have it easy. However, I am rooting for a Malaysian victory!

Bao CL vs Xia XZ
- on paper, Bao looks to be the better player at the moment. However, he may be instructed to "lose" if Wong CH won the 1st semi match which is played earlier.
Thus, I will not put down any money on this clash until Wong vs Shon match is over.:(

In women's event, I agree with Hugo that the 2 titles are almost certain to be the Chinese's. Hard to see anyone capable of stopping their WD now as the Koreans are out!

For MD, C/S are the pick of the street as on paper, they are heads and shoulders above the remaining field (no offence to Joel! ;) ) However, we can't rule out a Jonas/Paaske vs Cai/Fu finals. I will be adopting a contrarian strategy for this bet!:D

XD, my pick is Zhang/Gao vs Kim/Ra finals.

Think Xia is exhausted after his tough match .

Sang Yang is carrying a leg injury.

MS - Bao
WS - Gong or Zhang
MD - Sigit/Candra
WD - Gao/Huang
MX - Kim/Ra

Lucky YongBo!!

Was shown on TV!

No offence taken, even you pick on Chinese MD #7 seeded Cai/Fu might be bundled in first round. :)
I was just try to explain it is very unlikely to happen.

Really? Where did you hear this from, bbn? Did he suffer the injury before or during today's match?

Yeap, it was shown on TV yesterday. He was playing with an injured (or maybe cramp?) leg! This tells you how badly Chan/Chew played yesterday.... Anyway, it's his racket foot (right leg) if I'm not wrong. Hope it doesn't affect his performance badly today!

It's quite obvious that Sang Yang is the net player and Zheng Bo is the smasher (back court player) from yesterday's match.

Shon is supposed to have a slight left knee injury (iced between 2 and 3 games in CH match) even though that didn't stop him from beating Chen Hong. Maybe if WCH plays his game to take advantage of this, he probably will prevail.

Bao might be the underdog and might upset Xia if he plays the way he did in beating Roslin.

WS
Zhou Mi vs. Gong Ruina => Gong
Mia vs. Zhang Ning => Zhang
Probably all-Chinese affair in the finals but I am hoping that Mia can prevail since she is no longer in the WD event and thus should be able to focus all her attention on this event.

MD
Sang Yang / Zheng Bo vs. Jonas/Paaske => Jonas/Paaske
Cai Yun / Fu Haifung vs. Sigit/Candra => Chandra/Sigit
Totally agreed.
WD
Wei Yili / ZhaoTT vs. Yamada / Yamamoto => Wei/Zhao
Huang Sui / Gao Ling vs. Rikke / Ann-Lou => Rikke/Ann-Lou
I think this will be an all-Chinese final too.
MX
Zhang Jun / Gao Ling vs. Jonas/Rikke => Jonas/Rikke
ChenQQ / ZhaoTT vs. Kim Dong-Moon / Ra Kyeung Min => Kim/Ra

Really hope that Jonas/Rikke can prevail but probably not but again who knows (Go Jonas!)

Definitely Kim/Ra for sure over the Chinese pair. The Korean team already have their high expectations in this WC dashed dued to injuries and I am sure that Kim/Ra has the added incentive to go all out to capture this event.

Cai Yun/Fu Haifung vs. Candra/Sigit => Candra/Sigit

MX
Zhang Jun/Gao Ling vs. Jonas/Rikke => Zhang Jun/Gao Ling
ChenQQ/ZhaoTT vs. Kim Dong-Moon/Ra Kyeung Min => Kim/Ra

I don't see how Gao Ling can lose any of her two matches tomorrow.

Regarding Sang Yang, hopefully it's not too serious an injury. If his pair was still able to defeat Chan/Chew, then he must be coping with the injury pretty well!

Re: Re: Day 6 - Semi-final

MS: Wong CH: He is better one, Shon was lucky today to get the second game after 8:13 down against Chen Hong. Besides, Wong CH's badminton is much more entertaining than his.

Xia XZ: well, what can I say? He always make 110% efforts. Bao is great, but Xia might know his weakness, and Xia has perfect records against Wong CH.

MD: Sang/Zheng: I know Sang has injury. still, if they can beat up Chew/Chan...

Cai/Fu: Cai has the experience of beating C/S up. And as long as Sigit is making unforce errors, hehehe. I have to say this is more of hope instead of prediction.

WS: Zhou Mi.
Zhang Ning.

WD: already Boring....even worse without Ra/Lee.

MX: Zhang/Gao vs Kim/Ra (the no dramatic event in the five)

No matter what happen, as one guy(Former USA national team player) said:" there are all Chinese, even their names are Candra Wijiya, Tony Gunawan, Hendrawan,
Rudy Hartono, Mia Audina, Chew whatever..."

Maybe not all, but a lot. Non-Asian countries have to find a way to catch up....
It is sad to hear Camilla Martin said no one take her job over....

The chinese pair were also lucky that the M'sians coped poorly with the draught. There were many times the shuttle landed past the the back line on drives and smashes. It also affected their timing as well making other shots less effective. That's why SY/ZB were able to make strong comebacks in the 2nd game and after the chageover of the third game. In fact, the chinese pair did not do well from that poor end either.

The injury looks to be quite serious. It's not a new injury. I think SY pulled out of his mixed match beforehand conceding walkover. He cannot lunge well on the right leg and recover properly.

It looks like a muscle strain. Cramp cannot affect a badminton player so quickly!

I'm going for JR/Paaske to reach the final - but i don't think they have quite the quality to winthe final.

From what Chinese media said, that was mainly because his partner Chen Lin who had a cramp after extra long 106 minutes WD match, though Sang Yang was very tired from his own matches too.

whatever it is, it will still affect him in today's s/f. He cannot take too much rear court action.
