Just read that badmintonlegend Finn Kobberø died today - the 21st of January 2009. He was 72 years old.

I am too young to have seen him play, but I have the utmost respect for his achievements. 23 finals in All England from 1954 to 1966 - 15 of which he won.

    Profile on Wikipedia

    May he rest in peace...

Finn Kobbero: One of Denmark's most successful badminton players

With regret, I am to start this thread:
Finn Kobbero, one of badminton's most successful players in the 1950s and 1960s, has died, his family said today. He was 73.: click here

    Some of Finn Kobbero's achievements:
15 titles at the All England Open Badminton Championships.
22 titles at the Danish Championships, including 4 Singles titles, 9 Mens Doubles and 9 Mixed Doubles.

What can we say?... That's an achievement not likely to be emulated.
Some BCers might have seen him played. We would like to know some stories of how he played.

Let's talk about how he managed to win so many titles and how DEN continues to follow his footsteps to dominate Badminton in Europe.

    Cheers... chris-ccc

Thanks Oldhand ... I have searched.

So, I have learned to spell the name properly. It's Kobberø.

One of Kobbero's greatest rival and also friend is Malaysia's Eddy Choong. I believe Eddy had a son named after Finn Kobbero, naming him Finn Choong. In the 1950s Finn Kobbero was regarded by Malaysians of that era to be Denmark's greatest badminton player with superb skills.
