As usual, Liu Cheng made some critical unforced errors when the game was on the line at the 3rd set. The pose of Zhang Nan scratching his head in dismay & disappointment has become a standard to end the game for this pair in the series this year

    Country representative in QF

    7 - JPN, CHN
    6 - INA
    4 - IND
3 - DEN, KOR, TPE, THA
    2 - MAS, ENG

Seeded players / pairs left in QF

    MS - 4
    WS - 4
    MD - 3
    WD - 4
    XD - 6

As usual, XD category doesn't have much upset. For MD category, no more than 4 pairs qualifies to the QF since Malaysia Open 2018. I wonder what's wrong with MD category. Fortunately, minions doesn't knocked out in early stage.

For Indonesia, at max 5 players/pairs can go to SF. Let's hope that this is the case.

That has become a routine for sure. Soon Zhang Nan will lose all the motivation, I am afraid.

Its normal that Boe/Mo lost bexause they are already old.

Its not normal that LiuZhang keep losing. Did LC really made that many errors? Another deer in the headlight face? Dont know whats wrong with them or its just beginners luck for HanZhou who was match point down in second game. You can also remember they were match point down against BerryHardianto at ChinaOpen and reach the Final. Maybe the coach prefers them for OG.

If any of the top 2 pairs get separated, they will withdraw from ChinaOpen next month just like GohTan.

If HanZhou is the fast furious pair, it looks like Ahsan/Hendra may lose tomorrow

Yes, looks like she has problem with her waist iirc.

Okay, let's see who is gonna booted out.

Minions vs Hoki/Kobayashi -> Minions should win at all cost
Hendra/Ahsan vs Han/Zhou -> the match can go both ways
Owi/Butet vs Mathias/Christina -> same with the above one
GMT vs Line -> GMT can win if she is fit enough. Just hope that her injury doesn't get worse.
Greysia/Apri vs Rizky/Ketut -> this is all INA match.

Imagine, the game is hanging on the balance at the 3rd set, scoreline is at 9-9, the game is tight and you try to check the opponent whom happens to be your younger compatriots. And suddenly out of nowhere, 2 straight shots end up at the net for 2 straight cheap points given, and your partner looks so clueless as ever.

I always think ahsan were great at those (pushing the shuttle around, playing the shot to the midcourt, etc). it was always been their trademark, never lift the shuttle when they can afford to do it. you probably should watch their match against cai/fu in sudirman cup 2015, steen mentioned about it too. strong defense ? if you mean recently then idk, because I don't think there's many pairs who have really strong defense atm. unless the playing condition is super slow. but against lyd/yys (who I consider had the best defense back then) they're quite good, they have the best h2h (6-7) against them compared to any other pairs, I don't think lyd/yys likes to playing ahsan/hendra since the late of 2014, the period when I think ahsan becoming more complete as a player...started to play with a lot more variation from the backcourt (playing a lot of dropshots, halfsmashes, steep smashes, and only occasionaly full power smashes). probably realized when they kept losing to lyd/yys back then, his attack were bit one dimensional, so need to add some dimension to his game (the injuries probably forces him to do it too).

Yeah agree, he started to adapt since the late of 2014.

Yeah they clearly doesn't like playing fast & furious pair. but the young chinese pair is not really that stable the way I see it. so think they have great chance against han/zhou.

That's a novel grouping system. Any particular logic to that? Usually countries are counted separately.

I think he meant 7 representatives each for JPN and CHN.
3 each for DEN, KOR etc and 2 each for xxx

Yeah, spot on. As usual, JPN and CHN have the most representative in all of the tournament. However, JPN is leading faraway in World Tour title.

Well, if Li/Liu and Liu/Zhang keeps blowing up, minions certainly dont need to win this title.

I hope AhsanHendra wins it, but rate their chance not more than 40% against motivate young Chinese pair Han/Zhou.(especially after saving that MP down)
