27-29 December 2004 Cirkusbygningen, Copenhagen, Denmark 27-28 Dec : Semi Finals - MS, WS, MD 29 Dec : Finals - MS, WS, MD Question : Where is the Women's Double?
yvoneak, historically, the Copenhagen Masters only have MS, WS & MD events. not sure why that is so but perhaps due to the fact that they only have one court and limited time. i wonder who will be invited to the Copenhagen Masters this year. after the retirement of Camilla Martin, who has been almost a permanent fixture of the Copenhagen Masters in the past decade, i think the CM (they even have the same initials!!) will never be the same again.
True, but I think we can look forward to the Australian gals, I forgot their name, but they are sisters, to take over the limelight.
There will be no womens single this year. It is replaced with mixeddouble.Gao Ling / Zhang Jun, Jens Erikesen / Mette Schjoldager will be the toppairs. Johansen www.badminton-nyt.dk
So,organizer only choose those events they are strong in competition? I'm just worry one day after Peter Gade retirement, there will only left with MD and XD for this events.
I don't have time to do an english version at the moment, but I hope to do one in a couple of months. Do you thing that there will be interest in an english version? Regards Johansen www.badminton-nyt.dk
As a satellite distributor to international broadcasters, I have to frequently surf the net for any info to update my clients. Not every foreign language website can be translated by google and I find the most important info is always from the host nation's sports federation website than most other articles. And YES, that would be great for me and broadcasters alike. As a fan, it would be great to know what would be in store and what we can look forward to and chat about it in the forum. The English version would be obsolete in couple of months when the event is going to be next month itself. Hope it would be possible to have it in English before then. Many thanks.
I just want to state that the page I am running are NOT an official site. What I might can offer is a news-section in English with coverage of the tournament. Johansen www.badminton-nyt.dk
Didn't you notice that the organizer only invites top foreign players who didn't have a good records against Dannish players? Like last year, they invited Xie Xingfang who never beated Camilla at that time. And they didn't invite Lin Dan... But of course it's an just exhibation, the organizer wants to have the most spectators.
Not true. Who is invited and who accepts are different things. We don't know if Lin Dan was invited or not. I am sure the organizers would have loved to see him there. And I think Xie was simply the best they could get at that point, as Zhang Ning declined. The organizers want to attract the best field possible, but being an invitational tournament at an odd time, in an "odd" place, and with limited price money, they don't always succeed. Since the Copenhagen Masters is a small invitational and it doesn't give IBF ranking points, the organizers can choose any way they want. Obviously, they need some international big names to ensure the standard of the competition. However, in order to attract spectators and media, they ideally wish to see Danes in the finals of each category. The tournament is in two stages, with two groups in each category initially, and then each group winner enters the final. Each group should have one Danish player/pair. This year they don't have two Danish WS players that have potential of reaching a final, so they decided to drop that category for mixed doubles instead. Quite understandable. A quick look at the line-ups from some previous years is all it takes for your accusation about "only inviting top players with bad record against Danes" to crumble: MS: 2003: WCH, Gade, Taufik (group 1), Jonassen, Chen Yu, LCW (group 2) 2002: WCH, Lee Hyun Il, Gade (group 1) and Peter R, Sony, Chen Jin (group 2) 2001: Jonassen, Hendrawan, WCH (group 1), Gade, Luo Yigang, Gopichand (group 2) MD: 2003: Eriksen/Lundgaard, Candra/Halim, Choong/Lee (group 1), Lars/Jonas, Kim/Yim, Nathan/Anthony (group 2) 2002: Eriksen/Lundgaard, Chan/Chew, Cai/Fu (group 1), Lee/Yoo, Jonas/Lars, Candra/Sigit (group 2) 2001: Lars/Jonas, Candra/Sigit, Nathan/Anthony (group 1), Chan/Chew, Zhang Jun/Zhang Wei, Larsen/Laugesen (group 2) WS: 2003: Camilla, Mia Audina, Seo Yoon Hee (group 1), Xie Xinfang, Pi, Tine Rasmussen (group 2) 2002: Camilla, Meulendijks, Pi (group 1), Zhang Ning, Mia, Jun Jae Youn (group 2) 2001: Camilla, Pi, Cindana Hartono (group 1), Zhang Ning, Mette Sørensen, Meulendijks (group 2) In any case, it's a small tournament in a great venue with a great athmosphere where you get really close to the players. I went last year and I hope I will be able to go again this year.
It must be a conspiracy!! Seriously, that's ludicrous... MS this year: Peter Gade Kenneth Jonassen Taufik Hidayat Wong Choong Hann Lee Chong Wei ??? (China)
I'm not coming I'm afraid... Not that I'm not interested, if they can get Lin Dan, the MS matches will be pure dynamite! But I will be spending christmas with my family. I'll try to watch it on TV if TV2 will be transmitting though. Just in case you dont know, the tournament has been moved from Cirkusbygningen. This year it will be played in Falconercenteret. Read all about it here (in Danish).
