Nope, I've never even been to NZ Open! (some badminton fan I am ) A team event would be perfect for my first time , see them all at once!
Other than Denmark as the host with their top players, only Markis/Hendra , Nova/Lilyana and Robert M/ Nadiezda K are the top gun players. But I can understand with the lack of stars in this event cause too many events in Nov and Dec. From 2 SS events, SS final, East Asian G and Sea Games, Just too many when january 2010 will start with another 2 SS events. A little OT, again 2010 had a very strange scheduling. February and April 2010 had a very empty schedules. Feb only had Thomas and Uber Cup preeliminaries round. Maybe one event here will be better for warm up for above events. April 2010 also had Asia and Europe Championship, both play at the same time. Look at crazy schedule at June 2010, 4 events in a month! July had 6 events in a month. (But all the 6 events are only GP level)
Y is Peter Gade playing so much???? hes prob playin it cuz he has the best chance to win....ppl that can stop him in this tourney r prob Simon n Jorgensen. Then next month hes gonna play Korea Open....lets hope he doesnt get tired....

well play in a tournament is not all about winning some player play for themself some player play for country some player play for themself,country and fans thats the different

From what i gathered.. (from a pretty reliable source & who is involved in this Copenhagen Masters) this is the explanation: "Copenhagen masters is not that kinda masters. It's an invitation tournament. The hosts try to get some of the different good players from denmark, somethimes rest of scandinavian, england and the few that the Danish spectators might know from asian countries, i think they try to invite some of the big shots and then the national team managers choose who should be sent, eventhough it has nothing to do with national teams. Normally they choose to but put away the womens' doubles because itøs not very amusing to watch (some say). It's not the countries that compete against each other. It's every players vs. every players. The system is groups. all players are picked and invited, you don't have to have special points or something. so itøs not team vs. team. nonono...it's everybody against everybody in Mens singles, and eveyrbody against everybody in womens' singles etc etc." So, the priority seems to be to invite players from the Scandinavian/Europe-based region, first. And then, from other non-Scandinavian/Europe-based players.
I'm surprised this is news . I wanted to post it earlier, about it being an invitational tournament, but thought at some point someone would figure it out . China Masters was an invitational as well wasn't it before it became a GP/SS tournament(?). In any case, the Copenhagen Masters used to always be three of the five events, most likely due to the short nature and I believe the events were chosen that had the best danish representation which of course was MS, MD and WS. Then Camilla Martin retired and the XD was on the rise again so XD replaced WS untill Tine Rasmussen started her rise. I guess now both the WS and XD are world class so this is probably why it has expanded to four of the five events. About the opposition: it's probably who is up for it and fits in their budget. As there are no ranking points to be won (or lost) it's not extremely tempting to play this time of year I suppose ... althought this year's field has to be one of the weakest so far. The action takes place on just one court and the spectators are seated on three sides, just two metres from the action, so they are guaranteed a lively show. Copenhagen Masters started in 1982, it was then named Scandinavian Masters and was held in the Circus Building in Copenhagen. Later the tournament was named Copenhagen Masters. The tournament has since 2004 been held in the Falconer Hall in Frederiksberg. The concept behind Copenhagen Masters was developed after a visit to London where a similar tournament were played in Albert Hall. Copenhagen Masters has always been held during the last days of Christmas. The tournament has always been very popular and attracted, the first year around 2200 people visited. It's not an international challenge/battle of "The Best of the World Best" . IMHO, for this Copenhagen Masters, the players/organisers are not thinking of winning for their countries. It's far from it. It's a tournament created to display top Badminton matches without having to make it as an international challenge/battle. .
no i am not subjected to this tournament what i mean is some player goes for personal pride some for country pride and some for personal+country+fans pride u can see the different
Country pride is never an issue in this tournament . This is a 'friendly tournament'. It's how Badminton Denmark wishes to organise it. Country pride is never an issue in this tournament. Just ask the players/National Associations involved in it. .
