Dear Dink, This is the first thing I've ever had to disagree directly with you. But perhaps I'm just not exposed enough. Cheers TBBMBB(N)
She definitely have a gd voice but she didnt talk much through out the match, a gd commentator needs to be entertaining...
i feel funny to see all these posts about the commentators. The chinese commentator on cctv5 was just as bad, very probably worse. Seems people from all over the world have to suffer the comments, while enjoying the matches.
Entertaining?? What do you think the English commentator was there for? Charmaine Reid was there to provide technical expertise, which I'm afraid she barely did. Also, the English chap was so in love with his voice he hardly let Charmaine or Kevin Han a word in edgeways.
Disagree. A good commentator needs to add/complement the match. If they do not, they should not say anything. The other commentators talked way too much, useless banter. I want to watch the match.
Yup her Voice I'll have to take your word for it. Perhaps it was a bad mic on the day or the poor satellite broadcast signal we Malaysian's have to endure with TBBMBB(N)
The most funny boo boo made by John Burgess was when he refered to Zhang Ning as "Zhing Nan ". Anyway the guy is a pro commentator and has been commenting since 1996 Thomas Uber Cup on Starsports.
If I'm not wrong, Mr Burgess is more at home with rugby, a game which he might have coached at national level. We all look for different things. Some viewers dislike the 'banter', some rather concentrate on the action in the court. But I thought Mr Burgess had improved on his badminton knowledge compared to the last time and it was good that he had either Kevin or Charmaine at his side to fill in the technical details and to provide some 'insights' on the players. For example, instead of calling it a 'set' (as in tennis), Mr Burgess now corrected himself by saying "game", a very common mistake made by many commentators and even players who were used to the old system. His voice was excellent as he has been a pro for a long time, commenting for different sports. I'm more accustomed to his British accent than those of Kevin and Charmaine. And I think his little banter here and there provided some spice. Kevin's low bass voice was at times inaudible but his insider's knowledge of the Chinese players proved invaluable. Charmaine's was a little fast and soft for my liking but her enthusiasm spilled over to the listener. So the arrangement for anchorman Mr Burgess to engage the expertise of the younger set was not bad at all. Charmaine, I thought, did well in her interviews with the winners. She was indeed "charming" as Mr Burgess cheekily mentioned in passing.
For me, Malaysian RTM1 commentators are DISASTROUS. Ok, Hasbullah has a good voice for a commentator, but he doesn't have the technical knowledge. He tend to focus on emotional things like quotes "Ahhhh, Sayang sekali", "Sedikit Saje Lagi", and not forgetting his trademark "Cantik (Sekali)", and if you all was wondering who this is, he is the one commentating the MO2006 final. Remember "Magic Lee Chong Wei" ? That's him ! And he always focus on the points which is like "From being 3-5 down, now he fights back to 7-5 up", To me, he did that too much until you feel sick of it. Then the one that comment in the WC final, he is quite useless as well. I forgot any bad commments or things he said, but he just CANT stop talking when we are listenning to interviews from the winners. And that he mistaken the supporters chant "Jia You" as supporting "Cai Yun", can't put much blame on him since he couldn't understand mandarin.
--------------------------------------------- At least they didn't use Andrew Leste who was once a comedian and EMcee in KL's Instant Cafe. The British have this gift of the gab to entertain.OK when one grows up with HK movies,British plays , operas etc. Nowadays people like all action Hollywood style productions. Anyway I wouldnt want to knock the British, they have grown from the sick man of Europe to the 5th largest economy in the world and 2nd largest investor in China, so they are capable of doing sth right. In fact they are the most liberal of all the european countries.
I talked to Charmaine Reid today. She was the female commentator in the BCL LCW match. She was kind of embarrassed when I told her, she also said that the male commentator was told to stop talking so much later on in the tournament. She also said taht it was hard to talk b/c he was always talking.
The next time you see Charmaine, tell her she has a great voice and we USAers enjoy her contributions. And yes, I noticed during the MS and MD Finals, "Mr. Naughty" didn't speak as much. It's all good.
i think everybody have a different defination of what is a gd commentor... if he/she juz add/complement the match and if they do not, they should not say anything, can be very boring. At least that is what i feel, diff ppl hav diff opinions
IMHO I think his commentary is bearable but one thing that annoys me to the max is how he is is so overly obsessed with the speed of the smashes, i mean he's constantly shouting out numbers at you, just wondering if anyone else thought this was annoying:crying:
Ooo... please tell Charmaine she did a great job... better than Kevin lol... He tries too hard with the acsent and all... lol
nope... hes quite entertaining... At least he talks about the game... and gives unbias opinion and comments I prefer him over than most of the chinese commentators..
I think he's annoying as well He is obsessed about the speed of the smashes to much And he always commentary during the rally! :crying:
