I think I saw her these few days but I am not sure. Is she very pretty? Is she the only English commentator?
-------------------------------------- I overheard that he is an Englishman called Burgess, maybe working for Supersports. I dont see him as bad, some like hearted banter. Of course you cant bt the HK players on HK satelitte.
No, Tony is not the greatest unless you base it on the accomplishments in past year (as a U.S. player). Kevin Han had been the #1 singles and doubles player for the U.S. for over 10 years (I believe) and represented the U.S. in three different Olympics. Kevin was born and raised in China until he was ~17.
When i saw the repeat match on tv.. i fell asleep actually in the hotel. He is boring. Imagine i was watching doubles and singles match.

Hhaha, her accent is lovely indeed. She has good knowledge about badminton too. She always knows what's happening when the umpire calls the players or talks with them or when the players argue over something. Anyway, I too agree, that the commentators should just shut up during the rallies. I mean, no one needs to hear the obvious. "Good rally... Beautiful rally... Superb rally... Big shot..." It would be more enjoyable if I could just toggle the commentators voice off. Well at least the commentators aren't as bad as those American ones during the Olympics 2004.
I remember listening to her during a luncheon. Her voice is definately soothing. So professional and yet captivating. When she speaks, you listen to her attentively.
I guess it depends on what you consider more important. Winning WC or being active for a long period.
This is so true. The commentators are horrible. The one from the studio speaks in monotone. The one reporting from the stadium said that both Fu and Cai are 22 years old and he kept calling Robert Blair si botak (baldy).
Geeeeeeeeeeez This commentator doing the Taufik/CH game is ANNOYING. It's like he's having an orgasm when it was 1-0 for Taufik, and I think that Kevin Han is the supporting commentator, but the main commentator doesnt let him talk too much It also sounds like Kevin's accent is the only thing barring him from being the main commentator, but I'd rather take Kevin over this incompetent 'inside out smash' commentator -.-
i didnt think the commentation was bad in this WC. Yes it might not met our knowledgable badminton fans standard but u have to consider that the broadcast was meant for a wider audience. At least in this WC, the guy didnt talk much during the rallies.
OK!! I'm Back!!!! Been extremely busy! Hmmm my pick Lee HI only took semis. But best no China performer!!! Ok Back to topic!!! (1) The British Guy commentator is Fabulous!!!! He provides excelent color commentary and is very smooth!!! His technical points are still lacking but that can always be improved upon.......... and not the real reason he's been put there. He's here to save the public ignorant of our badminton Jargon! It seems to have been proven on sports entertainment tv that having a color comentator + play by play comentator (technical) is the the best formula. Why on earth would you need 2 people talking about the same thing. Often having a diff perspective does great TV. I think this guy is good entertainment and good for the general public viewership. 7.5 out of 10!!! (2) Gillian Clark. Would have been nice to have here for the WC2006 but........ Yes she does sound good. Till you have heard her for the 4th to 5th tournament! If you do, you'll be surprised how many matches / rallies the has claimed to be the best she has ever seen and what not. she does repeat herself alot which would suggest she has run out of 'phrases to say'. I could swear there's another thread in here cursing about how they hate her commentary. I have UK friends who are sick of her as well. Gillian if you are reading, no hard feelings! (3) Technical Commentators section, ie Charmaine Reid & Kevin Han Overall the technical support was severely lacking, slow, lots of ummm's arrrr's, extensive lisp on Kevin Han's part!!! The technical info was not up to par to an international world event. The 'what coaches are telling their players during half time' was hillariously sad! Kevin Han (Acting Coach) to Chen Hong : 'Chen Hong. you are making to many mistakes.' Talent for stating the obvious and highly demoralizing to the player!!! These two have too little commentary experience to run a show like this! 2 out of 10 for Charmaine. 2.5 our of 10 for Kevin Han due to faster response. The Big Bad Mean Borneon BaddyNut
yes i gave an average mark for commentators but if i have to divide up between the 2, the british guy did a fine job while his technical sidekicks gave subpar performance. The techicals were often late, insufficient and some even incorrect. For ex. championship point for english vs thailand XD, charmaine said sudket hits it out, it was saralee who hits it out.
I assume Charmaine Reid was the lone female commentator of this tourney. Irrespective of her commentating, she has a very nice, smooth "North American" voice. I like it.
