While watching the match, I thought his expression on winning was priceless. (As was his subsequent collapse ). Thanks for supplying such a great pic, pcl99! :)

Yes it is good, but you should change the sequence and highlight the above.

    The following is WZM's profile:

    Wang Zhengming

    Personal information

    Birth name
    王睁茗

    Country
    China

    Born
    February 16, 1990 (age 24)
    Guangzhou, Guangdong, China

    Height
    1.83 m (6 ft 0 in)

    Handedness
    Right

    Men's singles

    Highest ranking
    6 (July 24, 2014)

    Current ranking
    6 (September 25, 2014[2])

    Asian Championships

Silver 2010 New Delhi Men's singles

    East Asian Games
    Gold 2013 Tianjin Men's team
    Silver 2013 Tianjin Men's singles

    World Junior Championships
    Gold 2008 Pune Boys' singles
    Gold 2008 Pune Mixed team

    Asian Junior Championships
    Gold 2008 Boys' singles
    Gold 2008 Mixed team

A comparison of the height shows WZM is taller than CTC by 0.03m or barely an inch (1.83m x1.80m). Of course it seems WZM has a more impressive junior record but has yet to win a SS, if I'm not mistaken. CTC has broken his record by winning the French Open.

WZM won a SS already and has been in 5 finals.

He won by beating JOJ and SWH successively last year.

Give the subject of this thread some space, guys! :D It's not even 2 pages full, and you bring a full profile of other players into the fray here. I'm sure we could find some interesting things to dig up about CTC himself!

His name 周天成 means that his success comes down to him from Heaven. So is he the chosen non-mainland Chinese to step into the shoes of LCW to challenge the might of China, or is it going to be Ng Ka Long, Angus. They will be playing each other tonight. I believe it is going to be good match. I have followed Angus' progress for quite sometime and I think it is going in the right direction.

周天成 Chou Tien Chen / Zhou Tian Chen (hanyu pinyin)

周 - surname, has no particular inference although 周 could mean week or a surname of the 周 dynasty
    天 - Sky, Heaven, Celestial
成 - Achieve, Succeed, Accomplish, Complete

    So 天成 could mean either:
    1. He who will achieve heavenly standards of success
    2. He who is shaped by the heavens

    On a side note:
    王睁茗 Wang Zhengming
王 - Surname, no particular inference although the word 王 = King
    睁 - Eyes open
茗 - young leaves of tea plants

Not sure how or what his name is meant to indicate.....
    1. One who can monitor tea plantations well?
    2. One who is a good purveyor of quality tea?

Is WZM in the right business??

Sorry... I was the one who compared their heights...

Only 1 inch difference, but CTC has much better downward angles, reach and agility...and fire. Man, was he fired up...

So my interpretation of CTC's Chinese name is not quite accurate. It really doesn't matter. Just answering Cobalt's call to fill up the pages of this thread.

LOL! Will it make everyone feel better if I eat my words? :D Duly done, sirs!

So, let me get this right...

In France, on the final day of the fateful meeting, the One who Achieved Celestial proportions in a Week, did so at the expense of the Tea Plantation Manager of the Regency?

Time for another "Tale from the Middle Kingdom", I guess! ;)

CTC was playing men's doubles with Chao Hsiang Liao in July this year -at the Canadian Open, but that appeared to be a one-off thing.

He had pretty indifferent results over the past 2 years, apart from the Bitburger Open wins and the Welsh International in 2012. And then suddenly this year, all the stars aligned from July. Runner-up at the US Open Championships; a robust joust with Lin Dan at the Denmark Open, and then big payday at the French Open.

No right or wrong when it comes to Chinese name translations. They're all subjective anyway :D

Yes you are right, thank you. I must have heard the commentator wrongly.

I've checked Wikipedia and found out that:

"In March 2013, Wang won his first senior international title, the Swiss Open, beating compatriot Du Pengyu in the final 21-18 21-18."

Being a Tea Plantation Manager probably makes better money these days!

Just pay a visit to one of China's better known tea plantation provinces, like Yunan, and you will be shocked to learn that the tea leaves of some of the "thousand-year-old" trees can cost a small fortune!

I'm also trying to fill up the leaves of this 'book'.

He had a relatively easy time with Angus Ng at the French Open beating him 21-19, 21-17 in 41 min.
But he, seeded #2, almost lost to Raul Must of Estonia, 13-21, 21-12, 22-20 yesterday at the ongoing Bitburger Open.

I'm afraid CTC's lack of consistency might show up again.

indifferent indeed is a well chosen word.

in fact, for the last 28 SS t'ments prior to the French 2014 he never got passed the second round (21 of them out of the first round). no wonder his coach checked out and left well before the final!

hope more titles will be on their way as now he'd tasted success.

the best result of his is actually the last 8 of this year's world championship.

just to prove that the WC is much 'easier' than a bread and butter SS t'ment that open to the best.
