Some results of the 12th Jan 2016 R12 ties http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2016-01-12/doc-ifxnkvtn9867049.shtml - Another shock defeat for Lin Dan

Hunan Jiangwan Group 2:3 Xiamen Defang --
Wang Yihan (Ximen) trounced Hunan's Peng Qin, 21-6 and 21-11.
In MD, Chai Biao partnered Zhang Wen for Hunan and fought a fierce 55-minute battle before winning narrowly against Xiamen's Hong Wei/Liu Cheng, 21-18, 23-25,21-19.
Chen Long (Xiamen) overpowered Zhou Zeqi (Hunan), 21-9,21-10, to ensure a 3-1 lead for Xiamen.

Guangdong Qiaoxin Group 2:3 Qingdao Capital Airline --
Qingdao again rested Li Xuerui but fielded Lin Dan and he lost a second time to Wang Zhengming. Despite taking the opening set 21-10, WZM played better and better to turn the tables in G2, 21-18, and G3,21-19, while LD became more error-prone to concede the match; no excuses this time, the previous time LD was affected by diarrhoea the day before.
In WS, Guangdong's Zheng Yu bested Qingdao's Hui Xirui who substituted LXR, in a three-setter come-from-behind victory,16-21,21-19,21-17.
Finally, it was left to Qingdao's Luo twin sisters to win the deciding 5th match in WD (21-18,21-17) against Zhou Chaomin/Zhong Qianxin to emerge 3:2 over GDQX.

Benxi Zhihui Shan Shui Cheng (aka Liaoning) 2:3 Jiangsu Nantong Sanjiang --
After Jiangsu lost the opening XD match to Lianong, Wang Shixian equalized with a straightforward two-set victory over Liaoning's Wang Siyi,21-13 and 21-12.
In MD, Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen then went the full distance to take the lead for Liaoning beating Zhang Sijie/Kang Jun,21-17,17-21,21-9.
After Shi Yuqi (Jiangsu) convincingly despatched Liaoning's Gao Huan, 21-9,21-18, to draw level again,2-2.
In the tiebreaker, He Bingjiao actually played WD partnering Dong Yourong to seal a narrow victory for Jiangsu by defeating Laioning's An Yu/Tang Jinhua, 21-15 and 22-20. [I didn't know HBJ can play women's doubles too - Justin].

Zhejiang Jinti 5:0 Guangdong Century City (Shiji Cheng) --
Chen Yufei (Zhejiang) scored a decisive victory over Wei Wanqiu, 21-4,21-15.
In the end it was a clean sweep for Zhejiang over GDCC who suffered their 4th defeat so far.

That's what's stated in the report. Don't know what excuse , if any, Lin Dan has this time, but there's no denying his form in the CBSL so far after 12 rounds has not been impressive, to say the least. In part, it could be that WZM is maturing into a more steady and improved (improving?) player, perhaps his blooming (blossoming) is a little late in coming at age 25, for a CHN player, that is ?

Anyhow, that, to me, is a very good development for WZM. Let's see how he will fare when the next campaign season opens in March, beginning with the All England; I'm not holding my breath though as he has let me down once too often in the past.

Nahh I can't predict on WZM's performances anymore though he's too unpredictable

Qingdao again rested Li Xuerui (no idea why, hope it's not injury concerns - Justin). Hui Xirui, who replaced LXR,leveled the score 1:1 after Qingdao lost the opening XD - she beat Zhu Conglin,21-15,21-11.
In the 4th match, Lin Dan(Qingdao) played Zhou Zeqi(Hunan) again, but unlike the previous encounter when LD was stretched the full distance, this time LD withstood pressure to score a straightforward two-set victory,21-17,21-16. However, that didn't save Qingdao from going down 2:3 to Hunan when their Luo twins sisters was edged out by Hunan's Tian Qing/Jia Yifan in a close-fought three-setter, 19-21,21-15,21-15.

Benxi Zhihui Shan Shui Cheng(aka Liaoning) 0:5 Zhejiang Jinti --

The final R14 before the semifinals played on 26th Jan 2016 http://sports.sina.com.cn/others/badmin/2016-01-26/doc-ifxnuvxc2016924.shtml

After the completion of the 14 round-robin home and away matches, the top four teams that emerged are 1st Xiamen, 2nd Qingdao, 3rd Hunan, and 4th Zhejiang [Guangdong Qiaoxin group where Wang Zhengming is playing for, despite his remarkable two-match victory over Lin Dan (Qingdao), failed to make it to the semifinals]. These four teams will play the semifinals (sometime next month).

Qingdao Capital Airline (Shoudu Hangkong) 3:2 Xiamen Defang --
Both Lin Dan and Lixuerui took to the courts for Qingdao while Xiamen was missing both Chen Long and Wang Yihan; though it cost them the the match, Xiamen still tops the group ties to enter the semifinals.
In XD, Liu Cheng/Zhao Yunlei commenced proceedings for Xiamen with a 2-0 victory by an identical score of 21-14 over Lu Kai/Ma Jin (Qingdao).
Then Li Xuerui evened the score for Qingdao by beating Yao Xue who susbtituted for WYH in a two-set win,23-21 and 21-14.
Next, in MD, Zhang Nan/Hong Wei made it 2:1 for Xiamen with an emphatic victory over Qingdao's Liu Xiaolong/Qiu Zihan, 21-12,21-13.
In the 4th match, Lin Dan pulled one back for Qingdao, overcoming Xiamen's Tian Houwei despite dropping the 1st set, 21-12, to take the next two, 21-12,21-12, a come-from-behind triumph.
With the score at 2:2, it was left to the WD Luo twins to seal victory for Qingdao by consuming only 25 minutes to despatch Xiamen's Shao Yifei/Mai Yiwen, 21-10,21-8. However, despite losing this final preliminary round, Xiamen still emerged top of the group ties, edging Qingdao to the No.2 position. (If I'm not wrong, both Xiamen and Qingdao will be drawn in opposite halves for the semifinals - Justin).

Jiangsu Nantong Sanjiang 2:3 Hunan Jiangwan group --
Host team Jiangsu is playing for honours as they are out of contention for a semifinal spot.
XD Xu Chen/Cheng Su (Jiangsu) started with a win against Hunan's Zhang Wen/Huang Dongping, 21-19,21-14.
Next Wang Shixian made it 2:0 for Jiangsu with a resounding victory over Hunan's Zhu Conglin in a mere 22 minutes with a thumping two-setter,21-14,21-9. However, Jiangsu's happiness was short-lived as they went on to lose the next three matches in MD, MS, and WD.
Hunan's MD Chai Biao/Cheng Zhuofu, MS Zhou Zeqi, and WD Xia Huan/Jia Yifan, all won their matches in two straight games each.

Guangdong Qiaxin Group 1:4 Zhejiang Jinti --
This tie was to decide which of them earns the 4th semifinal spot.
Zhejiang started off well with Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong trouncing their GDQX opponents in 28 minutes , 21-14 and 21-12.
In WS, Chen Yufei gilded the lily for Zhejiang with an impressive two-set victory on Zheng Yu (GDQX), 21-15,21-14. (This explained why Chen Yufei withdrew from the ongoing Syed Modi Masters GPG last minute - Justin).
Wang Zhengming (who was sensational in his two-match victory over Lin Dan earlier) salvaged the only point for GDQX as both MD (played just before the MS) and WD went to Zhejiang who succeeded in earning the 4th semifinal spot.

Guangdong Century City (Shiji Cheng) 4:1 Benxi Zhihui Shuicheng(aka Liaoning)--
These two teams were already out of the semifinals.
In WS, Sun Yu (GDCC) took the opening set,21-16, thereafter her opponent , Zheng Yu, retired before the start of the 2nd set(presumably injured).
MS Xue Song also scored for GDCC after their MD sealed the tie, with Liaoning winning only the last WD match. (No wonder Xue Song withdrew from the ongoing Syed Modi Masters GPG - Justin ).

In the 1st semifinal today , 29th Jan 2016, Hunan Jiangwan Group upset the favourite Xiamen Defang 3:0 !

First off,in the XD, Xiamen fielded what they thought was their strongest pair, Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei. Unfortunately, Zhang Nan was troubled by a knee injury that he has not fully recovered from, as a result Hunan's Zhang Wen/Huang Yaqiong was tenacious in overcoming the famous couple in two straight sets, 21-18,21-13, in 38 minutes.

Next, in WS, Wang Yihan of Xiamen took on Sun Yu who was actually a special interim induction by the Hunan Team for the latter part of the tournament. In the opening set, WYH was playing quite well taking it 21-17. After that, Sun Yu put up a gutsy performance as the match wore on whilst WYH was affected by a slight leg injury which allowed SY to take control of the match gradually to win the next two sets, 21-15 and 21-7, a proceeding lasting 66 minutes. Hunan 2:0 Xiamen.

In the third critical match for Xiamen, a life and death battle for survival in MD, Hong Wei/Liu Cheng face-off Chai Biao/Zhang Wen of Hunan. The latter started well and was one game to the good, 21-17. In a do-or-die situation, Hong Wei/Liu Cheng focusing on serve-and-receive as well as better front-court control managed to equalize in G2. In the deciding 3rd set, the contest grew more intense, at 20-all, Chai Biao/Hong Wei made the most of their opportunities to seize the next two points for a 22-20 victory in three sets. With this win, Hunan was the first team to assure themselves a place in the final by an unassailable 3:0 score knocking out Xiamen Defang.

Incidentally, in Xiamen's lineup, Chen Long's name was not listed for MS; it didn't matter in the end as the remaining two matches were not needed and not played as Hunan was already 3:0 up.
