"The choice of entries is up to the respective MA and Chen can secure his place if he is chosen by the Chinese Badminton Association over one of his three higher-ranked compatriots."

Take your sacrifice, THW, THW or THW.

"The host MA has to decide by Wednesday 3 May whether or not to use its wild-card option, while BWF will decide on its wild cards by Friday 5 May."

By 3 May, we should have the answer. Cheer.

    Edit: Make it more legit.

Chen Long's the type of guy to be asleep for a year and a half, and then just wake up and win the Asia Championships...:oops:

I think his game play focusses more on good quality shot the whole time and superb fitness. So I can't really agree. I think he's the kind of player that profits from playing lots of matches and getting "match fit".

    I see what you mean.
But for some reason I feel like he has that quality to just bring a game that no-one can compete with on his day.

I agree with both of you in a way. I think Chen Long is a form player in a way that say Lin Dan isn't. But I do think he has an upper level like we've seen in the Olympics and WC where his defence goes to god level.

The way CL has been absent or under-performing since OLY shows poor involvement in the development of badminton. He is not doing much good for the game.

The development of badminton is not one man's task... and for sure not just any player's task, moreover a player is not a machine, not even an association's task,,, such huge thing of development of any sport is a matter of its whole ecosystem. And I will say that those high priests wearing the business suits controlling the world body making the business deals, laws and regulations etc etc have the most effects on the growth or subsiding of that sport, and among sports, badminton itself is also undergoing severe competition to get the interests of the media, societies and viewers, thus its success or not will also [at least partially] depend on the performances of other sports as well. It is just unfair thing to put such complex things on Chen Long's shoulder. A player or an association should have own freedom on that level of intensity any player gets involved, for whatever reasons, just call it some kind of "sovereignty"!

Btw I for one don't mind to see the absence of Chen Long at the WC. No such free card is needed.

What is it mean for to use the wild card option?

Well, its sad and is it fair for Tian to be sacrificed.Lol i dont think olympic champion need such mean, he had a year to prepare for the points. so this should be what it is.

    @kelana
Who said CL has to shoulder everything? Just do his part is enough.
Other players don't take a 6 months break after the OLY and show up just for the first rounds afterwards.

I think MA will give up THW. Even if not, BWF will probably give Chen a wildcard. How can you exclude the reigning WC and OC??

Pity for THW. I surely think he will be retiring in the next few year if he had no good result by then.
    Sports is hard nowdays.
