    Ranking/grading the skill-levels of teammates from CCC-Mates

    .
After the clarification of the rules from CBA, we also need to rank the skill-levels of our teammates of CCC-Mates.

Note : It's players' skill-levels for their Doubles games that is to be ranked/graded, not for their Singles.

If needed to know how to do the ranking/grading of players, I can help.

You are correct .... Game ends when one team scores 21 points --- in the singles format when playing singles the game ends when one team scores 15 points.

    Chris.....
for singles ....you can register a team of 3 players .... any more will be treated as emergencies.
I will forward you by email a copy of our simplified rules.
We have a maximum number of players that can play for a team during a season which is 6 for the 2 player competition and 6 Men, 6 ladies for the 2m,2l doubles competition.

We also have a number of matches that players must play to automatically qualify for the final .... if only 2 players in singles and 2m,2l in doubles each player must play 7 matches -- if 3m,3f or 3 players in singles it would be 5 matches....failure to meet these numbers means you must seek match secretary approval to play in the final.

Badminton Victoria require players who play more than 3 matches in the season to become financial members.... if only filling in once or twice it is not necessary.

One other thing to bear in mind is that where the ability of players is unknown -- and all your players are to us -- including you -- we have the ability to grade people out of the competition should results indicate that they are too strong for the grade -- this normally takes up to 3 matches.

    Hi Gary,

if we were found too strong for C, then would be automatically allocated in the next grade ?.

Too strong for this grade ?

    .
    Gary said :

My comment is (based on my own observation) :
Perhaps, our woman CCCer, Kat-R, is the only one who is stronger than other women participants (from other teams) in this grade.

All our other players of CCC-mates should correctly fall into this grade.

    This is only my opinion.

Let's see what could be our results after the 1st 3 matches. Afterall, it is the combined-strength of the team that matters.

I would like to repeat what I have said in Post #4 :

Set – A set shall consist of the best of three games using the rally point scoring system (sometimes referred to as a best of 3 games rubber)
Game – A game shall be won by the side which first scores 21 points (doubles) or 15 points (singles).
Ace – means a point won during a game
Premiership points – see premiership ladder paragraph.
    Singles
Singles teams shall comprise of 2 players – non gender specific.
1 additional player may be named in the team but only 2 players can play each match during the home and away season.
Three players may play in finals with match secretary approval and in an order specified by the match secretary.
A match will consist of 5 sets being 4 singles and 1 doubles.
A match will be won by the team winning most of the sets
If one unfinished set – may need to use doubles method to decide winner.
    Doubles.
Doubles teams shall consist of 2 men and 2 women
1 additional man and 1 additional woman may be named in the team but only 2 men and 2 women can play each match during the home and away season.
Three men and/or three women may play in the finals with match secretary approval and in an order specified by the match secretary (approval of 5 players will be given, 6 may not)
A match will consist of 6 sets being 1 men’s doubles, 1 women’s doubles and 4 mixed doubles.
A match will be won by the team winning the most sets.
If sets won are equal, the most games. If the sets and games won are equal , the most aces. If sets, games and aces are all equal the match will be a draw.

    Order of matches
The preferred order of matches is :-
Singles, singles, doubles, singles, singles in the 2 player competition
    and
men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed, mixed, mixed, mixed for the 4 player competition
but matches may be played in any order. (change the preferred order if a player missing).
In 4 player matches the mixed doubles pairings shall be
    • first - the strongest mixed doubles pairing… ManA and LadyA
    • second - the remaining pair, ManB and LadyB
    • third - ManA and LadyB
    • fourth – ManB and LadyA
    Starting Time
The courts are booked from 8:00pm and matches should start as close as possible to this time. Should one team be indicated on the scoresheet as responsible for a start later than 8:15pm and there be any unfinished matches those unfinished matches will be awarded to the team not responsible for the late start.
    In 4 player format
    • If a match is unable to start by 8:30pm the team responsible shall forfeit one match…….if unable to start by 8:45pm a second match shall be forfeited…… and if not possible to start by 9:00pm the match shall be forfeited.
    • If unable to start as both teams are missing players eg one team has all men present, other team all ladies – the team with players of the preferred order of play absent shall forfeit.
    • Matches forfeited shall be Men’s doubles then Women’s Doubles unless agreed otherwise.
    In 2 player format
The same time frame shall apply but the matches forfeited shall be the doubles match and one of the singles matches as the only reason for no play would be if a team had no player present.
    Unfinished Matches.
Any match unfinished shall not be counted as a match won - completed games, and aces shall be included and may decide the winner of the match.

    Casual team vacancies.
A team that has named additional players at the start of the season must fill casual vacancies from their list of players before obtaining emergency players.
Teams are to attempt to obtain players from any team scheduled on a bye for the round.
The match secretary must be consulted before using an emergency player for the first time. Once approved that player may be used again without match secretary consultation. The results of 2 matches are usually required to ascertain a player’s strength. The committee may regrade any player at any time – if that player is considered to be playing well below their grade.
The total number of players used in any one season shall not exceed:-
    • Singles teams - 6 players
    • Doubles teams - 6 men and 6 women.
A 3 point deduction in each and every singles game played and a 5 point deduction in each and every doubles game played will be the penalty imposed on the player whose inclusion causes these maximum numbers to be exceeded.

    Injuries
A player is allowed a once off maximum time of 3 minutes for treatment of an injury.
Any player injured during a match may be replaced by another player in any subsequent matches… provided the replacement player is eligible to play that grade (or lower) and they can play without any undue delay to the playing of the subsequent matches.
The score sheet shall indicate the nature and time of the injury as this may be required for an injury insurance claim
The score achieved by the injured player’s team shall stand with the opposition being awarded that game to 15(21) points and any additional games 15(21) to nil to ensure a result for the rubber.
A person is not permitted to play in two different teams on the same night.
    Results
Both team captains are requested to email the result to the match secretary within 72hours of the completion of each match.
    Permanent team changes
If it becomes necessary to replace a team player permanently the match secretary will need to give approval of the change – it will only be given to ensure a minimum number of players are available (if you have 3 men/women at the start and one leaves that player cannot be replaced).
For purposes of finals eligibility the new player will be deemed to have played all the matches played by the replaced player.
    Finals eligibility
A player will automatically qualify for the finals if he/she plays a minimum of one half the number of matches in a season (rounded down).
No player will be permitted to play in a finals match if they have not played a match in that grade during the season.
A player from a lower grade may be considered as a replacement. The committee may over-ride this rule if necessary for the lowest grade.
Permission to play a player not automatically qualified for the finals must be obtained at least 48 hours prior to the final being played.
    Points on ladder
A team that wins a match will be awarded 2 premiership points.
If the match results in a draw each team will be awarded 1 premiership point
A Bye is recorded as a win
Percentage is calculated by dividing total aces won by total aces lost and multiplying by 100. This is accumulated week by week.
    Finals
    Referee
If no referee is appointed for the finals the match secretary shall be the referee.
The referee shall have sole responsibility in ensuring matches are completed in time on the available courts.
Refusal to abide with any referee directions may result in defaulting a game or games if matches do not finish as a result of this non compliance.
    Umpiring
Teams not involved in finals are to umpire as directed by the match secretary – in most instances for the second week of the finals.

    Fixtures and Finals
Autumn season will start the last week in January and continue through to the week prior to the June/July school holidays.

2013 Spring CBA Doubles C League (on Tuesday night) - A message from Gary-G

    .
    Hi CCC-Mates,

Gary-G sent me this message :

    Hi everybody.....

Get out your badminton gear .... dust it off..... make sure it all still fits (and you've replaced or repaired the shorts you split in the finals)... because 30 of the entered 37 teams hit the courts this week.

8 teams play Monday, Wednesday and Thursday... while only 6 play Tuesday...... better check the web-site to see if you are due to play.

I'll be down this week and we'll sort out a few things --- what I want is one person to give out shuttles each night.

We have purchased a few score-books at a cost of close to $32.00 each - it is intended that they be handed out and returned each match night......You may be able to purchase one but you must contact Gary first... as we want to ensure we have 4-6 available at all times. Those of you who play at Altona will recognize them as they are the same as they have.

Please ensure all members of your team are aware of this start.

2013 Spring CBA Doubles C League (on Tuesday night) - Another message from Gary-G

    .
    Hi CCC-Mates,

Gary-G sent me this message :

    Hi Chris..

You have asked me to advise what the fees for the competition season might be......

Fees will be advised at the start of competition but the following is what I anticipate will be charged.

Each player that plays in a team on a regular basis -- (BV says this more than 3 matches) -- is required to be a financial member for the year 1 Jan to 31 Dec -- ie they must have paid the annual registration fee of $37.00 to an association........there is no half yearly rate. You only pay the fee once per year no matter how many associations you play in -- eg if you play Central, Western Suburbs and Veterans you would only pay once.

It is anticipated that the fees for the 2 player competition will be $372.00 for the team ($186.00 each of 2 players).
and for the 4 player competition will be $440.00 for the team ($110.00 each of 4 players).

If it is planned that more players than the minimum numbers shown will play on a regular basis you apportion the fees as you wish --- Albert Park Club -- as the club being charged the court hire and supplying the shuttles will require the full payment of the amount shown before the end of the 7th round.

The 2 player Comp will play all other teams in the grade in 12 weeks (9 matches,3 byes each team) ...... then each team in their pool of 5 (4 matches, 1 bye) followed by one final - so there are 13 matches for all teams.

The 4 player Comp will pay all other teams in the grade twice in 14 weeks (12 matches, 2 byes each team) and there will then be 3 weeks of finals for the top 4 teams -- so there are only 12 matches for all teams.

CCC-Mates at CBA (Melbourne) League Competition

    .
Received email from CBA (BaddyGary). It is about our next season's matches.

Question is : Will our CCC-Mates participate in next season's matches?

Email is copied and pasted below:

    ================================================

I have to make court bookings for the full 2014 calendar year within the next 3 weeks.

I need you to ask all your team members what night of the week you can or cannot play and to report back to me by September 15th.

I believe if I ask for 5 courts for each night we will not be able to get them but am reasonably confident we will be able to get 4 courts on Monday and Wednesday (Wesley club and Albert Club have bookings these nights)
and 5 courts on Tuesday and Thursday.

If this is happens I believe the best set-up to be:-
C Doubles on Wednesday -- least number of courts available.
    B/C Singles on Monday
    A/B doubles on Tuesday
    A singles on Thursday
The maximum teams able to play on
4 courts is 10 -- either two pools of 5 or the 10 team format being used this season
5 courts is 12 -- one pool of 7 and one pool of 5.

This season we have 7 teams on Tuesday and 10 teams each other night.

    ================================================

I would like to reply to CBA (BaddyGary) before 15-Sep-2013.

CBA (Melbourne) Doubles League : 2014 Autumn Season

    .
Received email from CBA (BaddyGary). It is about our next season's matches.

Email is copied and pasted below:

    ================================================

I have requested 4 courts for Monday and Wednesday evenings and 5 courts for Tuesday and Thursday evenings --- I have no indication as to what number of courts we shall be allocated.... and have no idea just how many teams will enter the various competitions.

At least the bottom (or possibly the bottom 2) teams of the Monday night competition (A2 grade) will be asked to play in the Tthursday night competition with the top 1 (or two) teams from Thursday being moved up.

You must enter a minimum of 2 player - and a maximum of 3 players - for each team.... one team per sheet.....
If you enter 3 players it is assumed that the 3 players will rotate week to week -- and you are required to use the player rostered off as the first emergency player for your team.... the rostered off player cannot fillin for another team if your team is playing.

If we still have 10 teams we may need to run the same format as this season. -- A 10 team/12 week draw followed by 2 5 team/5 week draws and if enough Tuesdays a final between the 2 top teams.....If we only have 8 or 9 teams we can play them on 4 courts..... if we get 5 courts (as requested) we can cater for 10 teams -- though the 18 weeks required for 2 rounds may be a little longer than the number of weeks we have available.

Please fillin the attached form (you can type into it using Word) and send it back to me -- I will need you to give me the information about team members as we will be changing the software used to record results sometime in the next 6 months and I want to ensure I have correct information.

Teams using this form will be given preference over teams that do not return the form.

    CCC-Mates team has won !!!

    .
At our Wednesday Social Games Night on 27-Nov-2013, Jerry-L informed us that our CCC-Mates team has won.

    Congratulations CCC-Mates !!! :):):)

We made it to the finals after finishing 2nd out of 7 teams in the league ladder. At the finals (on Tuesday 26-Nov-2013), we defeated the top team by a mere 6 points difference.

    Well Done !!! :):):)
