No kidding he won most rallies even in the defensive position. He is used to the biggest bombs thrown at him from the likes of Fu and the Danish players.
So I managed to drop by and catch the legendary Chandra Wijaya in the 3 vs 1 demo with towbsss et al. Wow, I've seen the back person smash at full force before, and I've always thought that it was at devastating speed. However, when Chandra's the guy on the other side, NO PROBLEM at all! Very unreal to see a true international professional vs Canadian provincials, let alone 3 of them against Chandra. Holy moly! -dave
Videos too If anyone is going to take some pictures, don't forget to take some videos too. Much appreciated... wish I was there... - De
Chandra is so fast...... that all the pic I took are blurry [gota invest in a digi SLR] Here is one that he is standing still. Lucky me, Darryl introduced me and I got to shake his hand. Best time to come and watch Chandra is before 6m. Today, after the camp, he will practice/rally with little badelbow[towbsss' bro] and others.
thanks for the pics badelbow...enjoy your sparring with Candra.. btw, is this where the Canadian National Badminton practice??(anyone can confirm??)..hmm, cos the place looks quite nice, fully equipped professional courts(reminds me of OCBC)...
Nope. C2 is a private enterprise operated by Darryl Yung (an Ex-Canadian National player). The Canadian National training centre is in Calgary. I think I will drop by today with my camera just to watch.
ok, thanks for the clarification...btw, if you can, by any chance, ask Candra where(which country, city) he's planning to go to next??..thx-
Today's pics Pics: 1. Chandra Wijaya and wood_22_chuck 2. Chandra Wijaya and speed78 3. Doubles demo -- Side 1: Chandra/Thomas 4. Doubles demo -- Side 2: lil' badelbow/Tim Ma -dave
I'd be posting more pics, but the ClearTwo staff made it clear only those involved in the summer camp + parents are allowed to take pics, and no one else. So I had to cap my lens and enjoy the demo game instead. Sorry all. In consolation, I notice badelbow took TONS of pics (or video?) of the game, so he'll have to oblige the readers if inclined -dave
Thanks for the pics.. dave, thanks for the info on where Candra will be going to next & all the pics...no problem, i'm satisfied with whatever pics you've shared with us..now, i guess we're just waiting for the rest of the pics from badelbow..hehehe BTW, if he's going to Korea & HK Open next, do you know who will he be partnering with?? Will he partner with Tony G. again or another player??..sorry for all my inquiries, hope you won't mind..
Chandra's EXTREMELY humble or shy around me, but VERY playful on court. It's hard to converse because I'm "the public" to him, I think. badelbow or towbsss will be your sources of info ... again, if they're inclined to. -dave
yes he is. Most pros doing camps won't even let parents of paid students take video or photos during training. The photo taking restriction on wood22chuck was by C2. I'm sure candra wouldn't mind at all.
i can understand the restriction for videotaping. if every student videotapes their badminton classes and passes the video among friends, then friends may decide to watch the video instead of enrolling in the classes. but photo-taking?? to me seeing photos of a facility is a good and positive PR for the facility involved. and frankly, what kind of "secret" can be leaked by a photo anyway. strange policy indeed.
I didn't know that I wasn't suppose to take their pictures! I took a picture with Chandra and I got to shake his hand ! He surprised me because he is a soft-spoken person. Like Taufik, he has a very relax style of playing badminton.
