Yeah I read that in an article...arvind Bhatt is in the last session of career and just not to get injured he decided to retire
Michelle Li is on course to last round and TPE unseeded Pai Yu Po will be her final opponent. MS front runner, Lee Hyun Il is fave to beat HKG promising shuttler Ng Ka Long tomorrow. Both KOR and TPE have secured WD and MD title respectively while XD discipline is going to the script, top seed v second seed. I'm also impressed... there're also 2 more practice courts on the upper mezzanine level! But what good is it, if the players complain of lack of cushioning...
Did anyone get a chance to record? Especially the WS match? Hm on their website it says they will be streaming today. I thought it was only yest and today is recorded for some other TV station.
Live streaming is on today for the finals (kind of surprised at that). Michelle did well to win her match yesterday (hard fought).
Michelle Li has no coach in the interval? I've just tuned in during the second game , but Michelle looks exhausted. The expression on her face can only give her opponent more hope. ... correction: they are both walking around between points like they are exhausted. That must have been one grueling 1st game.
Michelle Li shows some life in a very energetic rally to make it 17-18 in G2. Before that she was moping about the court in a way that some coach is going to have to correct if she wants to seem more formidable to her opponents. She could learn from Eugenie Bouchard, the Canadian tennis player who seems to ooze quiet confidence.
Excellent run of points and well played final point for a win for Michelle Li. When she shows a killer instinct, she is good!
She injured her knee just before the interval at G2. God, the courts must have been awful as she went down right knee first and it took a while for her to walk/massage off the pain. I thought she might retire. good on her for preserving and wining the title. First time that a Canadian player won the WS since 1999
in what sense? as in highest ranked ever? I think she is made it to #19 before dropping to #22 but the win should help her move up a couple of notches.
Don't know why her coach, Jennifer Lee, didn't make it out to Vancouver considering that she has family out her but maybe Michelle's jet setting travels are taking their toll on Ms. Lee and her badminton academy. I would have thought that C1 might have offered someone to help coach during the tournament.
The game 2 was so tight but she can nail title with that unfortunate condition. Congrats to Michelle and all other 4 winners!
Probably money and other commitments. As for offering to coach, sometimes that can be a touchy issue. Some coaches take it very personally and even truly altruistic offers might be viewed with suspicion.
I heard her coach was very busy in Toronto at this time and couldn't come. And as for the comment about Eugenie Brouchard, at least this Canadian won and certainly did not get bageled in finals Unfortunately Michelle won't get anywhere near the same headlines as Eugenie has been getting.
Next step is to get Michelle winning a super series! The badminton Canadian Open is not quite the level of a tennis grand slam. Some savvy marketing persons might want to get the two together for joint promotion. Let's hope the floor gets better for next year.
