yes i was there! Rose even mention Badminton Central in the ceremony which was really nice of her. my report is here: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/for...my-Grand-Opening-report&p=1453655#post1453655 I met a legend today.
i chatted with Rose briefly during the grand opening. she is looking into getting a curtain placed at the end of the court running down the middle of the gym. this will effectively fix the visibility problem. look forward to seeing that.
Curtains would be an improvement but even without it, the lighting wasn't so bad as to affect the gameplay significantly. Played for 3-4 hours and did not have a single missed shot that I attribute to lighting issues. That's from my experience though...
We had about 10+ friends play yesterday at CBA....Sorry to say this.. but It was like playing badminton on a Basketball hard court.. There's no bounce ..the small layer of cushion they added does not help at all.. It will hurt our knees and foot..For long term playing badminton on hard court is not good..and that's a fact. Would highly recommend CBA management to change the floors..to wooden I think they would have already received such feedback from many...
the floor seems fine too me. Compare to Z badminton, Smash City (before) Bay BAy and GGBC, I thought CBA is in good shape. If anything, they should add a bit more cushion, changing it to wooden floor would take a quite a bit of time and money.
what are ur reaction after playing in other similarly thin courts like BBC, GGBC and smashcity? I see very little difference between them.
BBC/GGBC uses robbins pulastic floors which are hard initially, after few months of playing they break in after that they are Ok, but nothing comparable to Wooden floors. The old Smashcity was really bad as they had put Badminton Mats on top of Concrete. Atleast in CBA concrete Floor->padding 10mm->Badminton Mat..which seems to be still very hard. Nothing against any clubs they are all here to facilitate Game of Badminton the game we all love and play. Just make sure the floors are good on our knees/feet.....so we can play for longer time and the Clubs can flourish as well...
Yeah maybe my knees are old and thus numb already but I cannot tell the diff between BBC/GGBC and CBA's floor.
It is really a layer of air space under the floor surface that is the best . Actually, it's not the floor surface - whether, it is wooden or cushioned mat. It is really what is under the floor surface - if there is any springing effect that is offered. Floors with a layer of air space under their surfaces are the ones that could provide the best springing effect. .
there was a tournament at CBA today. there are 33 teams, which i think means there are 350+ participants + spectators in CBA today from 9am till evening. the weather has been at around 85F for the past two days. with the heat outside and so many spectators/players generating heat, i was expecting it to be like a sauna in there. but it was surprisingly ok and not too hot. it was warm but very bearable. kudos to the newly installed passive ventilation system which worked really well to dissipate the heat.
..and expensive too!.. but yes, i would tend to concur on its effect... One of the local baddy clubs actually has that installed>>check out LABC (Los Angeles Badminton Club) sub-forum. In fact, if not mistaken, it's the only club (if not with OCBC), in the U.S., which has that type of flooring installed currently.
