I think Ivanov/Sozonov can win an unlikely title here.

Anything can happen. They should be a title contender if they play well like in 2016 AE. :)

Watanabe really not at his best tonight, playing at 1am and having both disciplines makes it understandable. G2 was more like it but again Higashino was scoring most of the key points and even saved the last two match points. Hopefully they will do better in Australia !

Huge respect for Boe and Morgensen managing to win a match finishing at 2 am lol. They are really a force to be reckoned with

There really seems to be a divide between players/ teams able to manage the court conditions and drift and the others. Unprecedented array of upset in this tournament

There was one case that was even more ridiculous.

It happened in one tournament that a player finished the last match after midnight but was scheduled to play the first match the next day. That player withdrew the next day.

What "new structure" promoted by BWF?

This year's Indonesian Open is held in a smaller, "temporary" stadium with ad-hoc scheduling because the originally planned/ intended stadium still hasn't finished up its renovations... this year's tournament structure was planned more than a year ago just like the Rio Olympics were planned more than 4 years before-hand-- and Brazil certainly didn't see itself going into recession when making its Olympic bid.

Dear parents, please ensure your young children learn to use internet access "fully" instead of haphazardly-- cos the more info there is online, the more people refuse to do their own research/ thinking...

Be thankful that we haven't had falling ceilings (when a storm hit) like when last year's World Table Tennis Team Championship was held in a "newly/ hastily" refurbished stadium in Kuala Lumpur last year-- and don't get me started on THEIR ridiculous scheduling....

Don't think CXX will have much in her tank for Sung Ji Hyun after 2 gruelling 3-game matches...

But that's why/ how rookies sometimes upset the established veterans-- veterans play and pace themselves based on their plan for the entire tournament or even year, while rookies are still going all out just to see how far it will get them...

Perhaps the locals can chime in on this. My guess is that due to Ramadan, people there get up late and stay up late. So the organizer made the schedule to accommodate this.

If the organizer reminded the participating teams about the special timing in advance, arrangements can certainly be made. Note that the starting for the quarter-finals is 4pm instead of the usual 12pm or 1pm. So instead of getting up at 7am, you can get up at 11am to do the time shifting. It is still not easy, but most players are from a different time zone anyway.

Even on a full tank, CXX is still not quite at SJH's level. CXX's job is already very well done. Anything extra is just a bonus.

The same story you get every year when drift conditions are unstable-- slower controlling game falters against faster attacking game.

And at their age, LCW/ LD are clearly reluctant to smash or push themselves too hard in the run-up to the World Championships in August. Even younger guys like Angus Ng Ka Long or Shi Yuqi who could have played fast/ hard decided enough was enough... though they already have their first SS title, so they really count as veterans.

Chen Long also played pretty crap last year (or the year before?) when he was scheduled in the afternoon instead of evening-- his controlling game was all over the place and he got beaten by Kashyap Parupalli.

So it really depends on how hard Sung wants to fight-- she looked tired yesterday (from Sudirman campaign?), but I can never really tell what the Ice Princess is thinking...

Like Son Wan Ho, they are either really composed or recover from their emotions really well.

I wouldn't be surprised if JPN continues to place more emphasis on MD and WD now that the Sudirman Cup is over-- given that Park Joo Bong went over to JPN to play 4D chess with 10-years plans...

But given Watanabe strengths and weaknesses, there is no point trying to make him a "generalist' like Hayakawa Kenichi-- Hiroyuki Endo is a trusty senior/ partner but there is no real synergy/ chemistry in their MD partnership-- give him another short, sharp MD partner so they can jump all over the court like Dechapol/ Kittinupong or Sonada/ Kamura.

Similarly for Higashino-- find her another short, sharp WD partner and they'll be smashing right back at Chen Qingchen/ Jia Yifan....

I doubt it. If anything, people are going to sleep earlier because they have to get up before dawn.

Maybe it has something to do with our working hours. Most of us finish work 30 - 60 minutes earlier because of shorter lunch break. That's why most matches involving INA players are played a bit later. Just an assumption though.

I wouldn't say Misaki/Ayaka underperform. They still got RU & SF in Singapore&Malaysia respectively.

It just sounds bad such is their pedigree because they have not won SS yet this year so in that sense haven't won in 5 SS makes them underperforming. In this era or the previous eras, only titles matter and one that gives you confidence.

Six-time champion Lee Chong Wei ended his journey early in JCC, the off-form Malaysian couldn't control the drift condition that caused by air conditioner and succumbed to very well-prepared Prannoy who played superbly yesterday with his aggressive and solid defense that dazed defending champion. Lee failed to force deciding game as Prannoy came back on the track to create major upset in this tournament. More upset at bottom-half of draw, last year beaten finalist Jan O Jorgensen was tackled by resurgent Srikanth Kidambi while Korean star Son Wan Ho keep his momentum and has familiar opponent today, Chou Tien Chen, it's still fresh in memory when both of them involved in thrilling match of Sudirman Cup quarterfinal last month.

Zhang Beiwen made second round headline to derail Rio silver medalist Pusarla Sindhu progress further here, the US player is a tough foe for the Indian darling as their previous three meetings displayed. Zhang will take on another tall player this evening, China Sun Yu who edged out Busanan Ongbamrungphan yesterday. Red-hot favourite Tai Tzu Ying continues her winning streak to defend her title here, she will see 2014 INA Open semifinalist Nitchaon Jindapol who overcame three-time winner Saina Nehwal in last sixteen. Japan has secured one semifinal berth in this discipline through Akane Yamaguchi against her senior Sayaka Sato while Chinese teen Chen Xiaoxin will get hard test to pass, the experienced and consistent Sung Ji Hyun.

Men's doubles big match will pit two European pairs, former All England champion Ivanov/Sozonov against Denmark prominent duo Boe/Mogensen. Indonesia last hopeful in this category will rely on the youngsters Alfian/Ardianto who will face 2014 World Junior Champion Kedren/Puavaranukroh. At the upper-half draw, two Chinese pairs stay on course, Liu C/Chang N will find heavyweight opponent Kamura/Sonoda while Li JH/Liu YC have Taiwanese combination Lee JH/Lee Y.

Two home women's doubles pairs delight the crowd to down higher-ranked rival, Haris/Sari beat the most vulnerable Chinese combination Luo twin sisters in long-duration 90 minutes battle, later on Awanda/Istirani shocked Rio bronze medalist Jung KE/Shin SC in three games and will meet their neighbour foe Supajirakul/Taerattanachai for a place in final four. A close contest will be projected between Juhl/Pedersen and Chinese number one Chen QC/Jia YF. Title contender Chang YN/Lee SH have another home hurdle, Haris/Sari while one semifinal berth has been sealed by Japanese pair, either Fukushima/Hirota or Tanaka/Yonemoto.
