What will happen to the players that have lost on purpose after being payed by the 2 match-fixing players?

I think you misunderstand it. High possibility It's not they pay other players to lose. but they got paid by 3rd party (the better / gambler) to fixed the match probably to lose it on purpose.

How did they manage to influence a match if they did not approach the player. An apacs associate approached Vitinghus and he told BWF that started the whole scandal.

BAM may send rep for shuttlers’ match-fixing hearing

A Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) representative may attend the hearing of two Malaysian shuttlers involved in match-fixing scheduled to be held in Singapore from Feb 26-27.

The national body have submitted a request to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) for them to be one of the observers.

BAM president Datuk Norza Zakaria said the BWF were positive with their request. And BAM’s general manager Michelle Chai had been in communication with the world body.

We’ve asked to attend the hearing and the BWF have been positive about it. Michelle is working out on the necessary steps,” said Norza.

Although the duo are not BAM players, Norza said the national body were keen to attend the hearing as they wanted a better understanding of the incident.

We need to understand the case, and being the body in charge of the development of badminton in this country, we need to ensure that we take the necessary steps to prevent such cases from happening again,” said Norza.

We also need to see that the hearing is done fairly and professionally. The BAM are not defending the players. The best we can do is to apply for a watching brief. I repeat that we do not condone and defend match-fixers,” added Norza.

Meanwhile, BWF secretary-general Thomas Lund chose not to comment when asked about the match-fixing issue.

We do not have any comments. Sorry,” said Lund via a text message.

It is the second time that the match-fixing issue in badminton had surfaced in Malaysia.

In 2014, two Danish players Hans-Kristian Vittinghus and Kim Astrup Sorensen claimed that a Malaysian bookie had approached them to sell matches during the Japan Open and the BWF reported it to the Malaysian police and the case was said to be investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

    Chong Wei turns down bookie

Former World No 1 Lee Chong Wei revealed that he was approached by a bookie a few years ago.

However, the national No 1 men's singles shuttler turned down the offer as he felt that he would be letting down the country had he done so.

"Yes, I was approached, but money is not everything to me,” said Chong Wei at the Academy Badminton Malaysia in Bukit Kiara on Tuesday.

For me, national pride comes first and it is my responsibility to uphold it.

The 36-year-old also warned his teammates to stay clear of match-fixing.

There are no shortcuts to success. A player needs to work hard and be patient,” Chong Wei added.

Last week, the BA of Malaysia (BAM) disclosed that two independent shuttlers were being investigated for match-fixing and that they have been provisionally suspended from all tournaments.

One of the suspended players was a top player in his junior days. They could be handed a life ban by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) if found guilty.

The hearing will be in Singapore on Feb 26-27.

Chong Wei, who will play in next month’s All England in Birmingham, said the match-fixing scandal has in a way tarnished the reputation of Malaysian badminton.

"It has tarnished our good reputation. The two who are being investigated may not be under BAM, but they still wear our Malaysian flag on their chest."

"As a top player, I feel embarrassed and ashamed. I hope the case comes to an end soon."

I also understand that BAM will take a stern action on those involved in it,” Chong Wei added.
