KUALA LUMPUR: THE Malaysian badminton fraternity has been rocked by a recent match-fixing allegation involving a professional shuttler, who is being investigated by the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

According to sources, BWF has provisionally suspended the player, who is in his 20s, from competing as investigations were ongoing.

It is understood that the world governing body started monitoring the player, who has represented Malaysia in priority tournaments, such as the World Championships and the All England, last February, but took action only last month.

“I know BWF called the player in for investigation late last year. It had apparently found enough proof, some after looking through the player’s mobile phone, to charge the shuttler,” said one of the sources yesterday.

The source said BWF would hold a hearing with the player in Singapore later this month. It is learnt that the player’s lavish lifestyle triggered BWF’s suspicion.

The case has garnered enough traction and had been the main talking point among local shuttlers and officials.

Badminton Association of Malaysia honorary secretary Datuk Ng Chin Chai, when contacted, declined to comment.

“I cannot comment on this as it is a serious allegation. I am sorry.”

This is the first time that a Malaysian shuttler has been investigated for being directly linked with match-fixing.

According to BWF’s rules and regulations, a player can be banned for life if found guilty.

In 20s, a male, have played in World Championships and All England.

Simple data analytics would have narrowed the list down to ...

Not sure if true or not.
    ---
BREAKING & EXCLUSIVE: Malaysian Badminton player Zulfadli Zulkiffli suspended by BWF for match-fixing.

According to reliable sources, BWF approached him & captured Whatsapp messages related to match-fixing on his phone during a recent tournament.

Despite his career performance was not remarkable. His lavish lifestyle, including owning a brand new Mercedes-Benz car, has triggered BWF’s suspicion.

Malaysian shuttlers have been verbally warned by their respective coaches to not involved in match-fixing.

It is believed that the same person also had approached Hans-Kristian Vittinghus & Kim Astrup before, during 2014 Japan Open in June, which then exposed by Vittinghus to BWF.

We will update once we got more information on this.

Goh and Tan might have got presents for Olympics silver medal so a more lavish lifestyle would not look so extraordinary..

Suspect list would narrow down very quickly

It's more difficult to match fix in doubles because it would require 2 people to plan and coordinate together.

Hmm... ZZ also withdrawn from the last 3 tournaments in 2018 : MAS Masters, INA Masters & IND Open. So, Are all of his WDN related with or due to that provisionally suspension?

And I thought I could single handedly destroy @swsh @shreyas666 hopes of winning the match but if Le Prof @visor says it takes two to tango then so be it.
